Daily Chronicle: AdeptiCon 2023 Recap

Adepticon 2023 has now come and gone and I had a good time.  I managed to play 8 games over 3 days, and had time to do some vendor hall shopping and meet up with some old friends, for me that is what AdeptiCon is about.

We played Marvel Crisis Protocol all weekend (Thursday/Friday/Saturday) and the nice thing about MCP events is, if you are no longer in the running, you can easily drop out of the event to go and do other things at the convention, and that is what I did.  I am not a competitive player as I go for the comraderie.

Thursday started with the Affiliations tournament and I played one of the smallest affiliations with my "Winter Guard".  I ended up going 0-3, but they were all fun games.  There were still 2 more games left in the event, but we went to start our shopping and get some dinner.

Friday was the 2v2 Team tournament, and game #1 they put us on table #1 streaming to all the viewers.  It was a tight close battle, but we lost by 1 point, 10-11.  Games #2 was better for us and we managed a win in the event.  Game #3 was another tight battle and lost by 1 point again, but it was really fun, all 3 games we had great time and left after going 1-2.  It was going to be a long night as there were still 2 more games, so we headed out to complete some final shopping and dinner.

Saturday was Championship day and one last hoorah for my "Age of Ultron" roster.  Game #1 did not start off to good for me, my opponent was nice, but you can tell right away these guys were serious for this event.  The super fast play and not much chit chat was not that enjoyable.  Game #2 was much better as I had a great opponent and we had a good time.  I had the early lead in this game, but then fell apart and got another loss, going 0-2.  Only the Top 8 were advancing to Sunday, and you needed a 4-0 record to advance.  So with 2 loses, it was my final day for last minute shopping.

After my son was done (who played all 4 games), we headed out to Buona Beef for dinner and then went back to the hotel and packed our bags and headed back home.

The one good thing about this years shopping was, I managed to control myself and kept my purchases to the essentials and did not walk away with a new game (like I usually do), but it was tempting.

Here is a photo dump from the weekend.

Daily Chronicle: Week of AdeptiCon 2023!

Adepticon 2023 is finally here. I cannot believe how fast the first three months of 2023 has already gone by.

Last year at AdeptiCon due to scheduling conflicts I was only there for one day, so I did not play in any events.

This year, we are driving in Wednesday night and we have events planned for Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and on Sunday will be our free day to shop the vendor hall (what we cannot get to Saturday after our event).

All events this year will be Marvel Crisis Protocol (MCP) since that is all I have been playing the last year and enjoy it the most.

Thursday will be MCP Affiliations tournament.  Your entire roster needs to be from only one affiliation.

Friday will be the MCP 2v2 tournament where my son and I are teaming up with an “East vs West” themed roster.

Saturday is the main event for MCP, the AdeptiCon Championships with the Top 8 moving on to Sunday (wont be us, hence the Sunday free day).  I’ll be playing my themed “Age of Ultron” list for one final event.

Our goal is to play all games on Thursday/Friday (5 games each day), but we shall see how we do and may elect to bow out earlier.

Come back next week for a recap and photos from AdeptiCon 2023.

Weekly Chronicle 2022 #13 (AdeptiCon 2022 Recap)

AdeptiCon 2022 has come and gone, and unfortunately 2022 was a short event for me.  I had to work on Thursday and had other personal commitments on Saturday, so Friday was my only day to really attend the event.

I was originally signed up for the Warhammer 40,000 Friendly on Friday, with the plan that I was able to get downstairs on Thursday to do my Vendor Hall shopping, but real work kept me busy all day on Thursday.

Thursday night after dinner, I did get a game of Warhammer 40,000 in with my son, and then I decided to bow out of the Friendly on Friday and do my Vendor Hall shopping and visits with old friends.

I did really good in the Vendor Hall, I was so tempted to pick up a few different games, but I never have time, so I kept it to my main two core of the year, Warhammer 40,000 and Marvel Crisis Protocol, and most of it was for MCP.

AdeptiCon 2022 purchases.

I am disappointed I could only attend 1 day at the greatest miniature convention in the US, next year I will plan it a bit better and make sure nothing else interferes with the weekend.

Here are a few pics from the time I was there.

AdeptiCon 2021 Officially Cancelled!

We hope that everyone is well in these unprecedented and uncertain times. It has been a challenging year for all of us. It is with a heavy heart that we must announce officially what many of you have already come to realize, that it will be impossible to hold AdeptiCon in March of 2021. The continued ongoing effects of the pandemic and the restrictions imposed by the State of Illinois mean we are unable to effectively plan and organize the logistical efforts involved with running the convention. As you may be aware, by late November AdeptiCon has already typically opened hotel blocks and launched registration and staff and attendees alike have started making plans to see old friends and begin new hobby projects.

Like Americans across the country, we are optimistic that brighter days are coming, but the fluidity of the situation does not allow for the firm commitments required to see AdeptiCon realized in the way we’ve all come to expect. We do not make this decision lightly and there is no group more disappointed than the AdeptiCon staff, but current restrictions along with our continued first priority, the health and well-being of our attendees and staff, makes cancellation the only option. We believe it is the responsible one.

To that end, we have notified and consulted with our venue and myriad partners to negotiate the necessary arrangements to cancel AdeptiCon 2021, while simultaneously securing the future of the convention for years to come.

We understand that this was not the announcement anyone wanted to hear and certainly not one we are happy about making. However, this decision allows us to focus fully on the future of AdeptiCon. Instead of being confined and limited by the uncertainty of current circumstances, we can focus on planning the best possible AdeptiCon 2022. It also allows us to continue the development of the Ancient Order of AdeptiCon perks and the launch of an AdeptiCon webstore that would make AdeptiCon merchandise available year round.

Once again, we appreciate your understanding, patience, and the unprecedented loyalty of our attendees. If you had chosen, previously, to roll your registration forward, rest assured that it will move to 2022/2023 without any issues. This has been a challenging time for the nation and while AdeptiCon thanks everyone involved in making the convention the best event in the world, from attendees to volunteers to exhibitors, we would especially like to acknowledge those of you serving your communities in the medical and first-responder fields. Your tireless work allows us to see the light at the end of the tunnel and gives us confidence that not only will AdeptiCon be back, stronger than ever, but that our country will too.

Weekly Chronicle 2020 #12 (Week of AdeptiCon)

Even though COVID-19 has hit the world and a lot of people are working on painting projects, my output of models completed did not increase that much.  I ave been working from home for the last 13 years and currently still working (thankfully) so COVID-19 has not really affected me much except for cancelling all the events that were planned.

The only item that was completed was my 'Whirlwind I' that I posted last Tuesday, and I did sit done for a little bit to get some paint on the next batch of 5 'Termagants'.

Over the weekend though, my son and I did manage to get in 2 games.  On Saturday we played our first 2000 point ITC game of Warhammer 40K, and on Sunday it was our first try at playing Kill Team.  I will work on a battle report recap later today for each of those.

As the post title says, this is the week of AdeptiCon 2020, or it was suppose to be.  I still have my vacation day planned for Friday and my son also has the time off.  The plan as of now is for our friend Frank to come up for the weekend to get in some games, as of now our 2 States do not have a "stay at home" order in place, but that can change any minute.  If he cannot make it up, my son and I will still make a weekend of gaming (not as hectic as AdeptiCon or as many games played) but we will still try to get in quite a few.

Weekly Chronicle 2020 #11

Well it has been a pretty sad week with as we all know AdeptiCon being cancelled, my countdown timer on the blog is already reset to the next convention which is NOVA Open in September, let us just hope that by then COVID-19 is done with.

In my other gaming related news for the week, it has just been another standard week for me, nothing was finished painting wise, but I did start on a model over the weekend and should be ready for tomorrow.  I have been slacking on the 5 'Termagants' I still have ready to go, I really do need to get those done.  I also did purchase another piece of terrain for our Warhammer 40K table and got it assembled, so now all of our BMG buildings have been removed off of our Ruined City table.

Gaming related news it was also a good weekend, usually we get in one game a week if we are lucky, on Saturday we managed to play two games, a game of MeSBG and one of Warhammer 40K.  This Saturday we will venture into our first 2000 point game of Warhammer 40K in 8th Edition and using the ITC Missions/Rules once again.  It is time to start prepping my 2000 point lists that I am debating on for NOVA Open, I have just under six months to decide on a list and get some models painted.

Daily Chronicle: AdeptiCon 2020 Cancelled

As most of you who are reading this probably already know, if not, due to COVID-19, AdeptiCon had to be cancelled for 2020.  Besides trying to do the right thing for the public, the State of Illinois also made it mandatory to cancel all events with a gathering of 1000 people or more (which AdeptiCon falls into this category).

The AdeptiCon staff posted the following information last night:

Since the very first AdeptiCon, held eighteen years ago, we’ve made it clear that the highest priority, in any consideration, would always be the attendees. Over the years, we have done our best to be loyal to this principle. With our incredible staff, volunteers, organizers, and instructors, AdeptiCon has been proud to host our annual hobby celebration with a continued emphasis on creating an amazing experience for our attendees. It is with that priority in mind that we have decided, after many hours of internal conversation and consultation with the venue, hotels, and various local authorities, that the health and well-being of our attendees and the public must come first. While we continued planning and did everything in our power to see AdeptiCon run as normal, we are now following both government guidance and our own judgement concerning the COVID-19 virus in cancelling the 2020 convention scheduled for March 25th-29th.
We understand that this will impact all of you. It also impacts our exhibitors, staff, the venue, and the local community. It is not a decision we have made lightly; it is a decision based entirely on keeping people safe and healthy. It goes without saying that no one is more heartbroken about this situation than the AdeptiCon team. We look forward to seeing all of you every year, sharing our love of the hobby and revisiting friendships cultivated over years of the convention.
The AdeptiCon staff is already vigorously working on details around issuing requests for credits/refunds, the handling of prepaid merchandise, badge upgrades and other related items. We will provide to our attendees and exhibitors final plans to address the unprecedented circumstances that the COVID-19 virus has thrust upon us by April 15th or sooner. Your patience is appreciated during this time as we finalize the necessary details and logistics.
It is important to understand that the AdeptiCon team remains committed to this event. With your help, we will be able to return to providing you with the greatest tabletop gaming event experience around. We are very determined to see AdeptiCon return, thrive, and run long into the future. And we will remain focused, as always, on our most important priority, the attendees.
Sincerely,
AdeptiCon Staff
“For Gamers, By Gamers”
Addendum: There is no need to contact us requesting a refund or credit. We will contact all attendees with several options once we work out the details.

I am pretty sad that we will be missing AdeptiCon 2020, I was really looking forward to playing in the Warhammer 40K Friendly, along with playing in the Team Tournament which would have been 10 years since last playing in it.

Let's just hope all is good for 2021.

Weekly Chronicle 2020 #4 (Worried About AdeptiCon)

Week four was not a total waste of a week where a little bit was done during the week.  Luckily mid week I had decided to paint up the newest Captain for the Alchemist's Guid with 'Soma' and then I did spend some time over the weekend continuing on my Imperial Fists.  Hopefully this week I will be able to complete that Unit as AdepriCon is getting closer and closer.

Then on Saturday my son and I got in another practice game of Warammer 40K, with a handicap.  We wanted more practice in the Fight Phase so we played a smaller point game that no Shooting was allowed except for Overwatch and if already in Combat.  It was a good game and we had quite a bit of combat, once we each got into our opponents Deployment Zones ad captured the Objectives, the game ended up being a Draw, but it was nice to recap the Fight Phase, but I want my shooting LOL.

AdeptiCon 2020 is fast approaching (as noted above) 58 days and I was kind of getting worried about the Warhammer 40K Team Tournament.  My son and I formed a team with a friend of mine from Chicago and his adult son, they have never played Warhammer 40K and wanted to start learning and I thought this would be a fun event for all of us to play together (this was back in November).  Now here we are at the end of January and they still had not purchased their models nor any books for the game.  My friend was suppose to come out for a learning day this past Saturday, but life gets in the way (started a new career as a Realtor after 30 years in his family business) and had 2 showings that were scheduled for Saturday and could not come out.  Saturday morning I then decided that more than likely I was going to have to cancel the Team Tournament event and receive store credit or possibly make a post in the Grand Rapids area for anyone looking to fill our Team.

I called my son downstairs into the mancave to discuss our options.  My friend Frank from Arizona (now in Indiana) was busy doing the Middle-earth Grand Tournament on Saturday/Sunday (I had thought) so I had not originally asked him.  I sent Frank a message Saturday morning asking if he had gotten into the Middle-earth event, it turns out he did not, and the other event he was also signed up for Saturday he was on the wait-list.  As soon as I asked Frank if he and his son would join us on our Team, he was all in...... and the plus side is, Frank knows how to play the game.....our Saviors!

So I am back on schedule for AdeptiCon 2020. and nothing to worry about now.

Weekly Chronicle 2019 #49 (AdeptiCon Registration Is Open)

As the title of the blog states, registration for AdeptiCon is now OPEN! but first a quick recap of the following week.

My son and I were able to get in a small 500 point game of Warhammer 40K in yesterday afternoon, just for the sake of time, for now we are keeping the points really low and just trying out different Units we do not play often along with HQ's.  Yesterdays practice was to see how Librarians work in the game along with the Psychic Phase (too be honest, I kind of like my Librarian).  My Imperial Fists were able to get the victory mainly due in part to one lone Primaris Intercessor surviving Assaults from a Salamander Tactical Squad, the Salamanders had some pretty bad dice rolls and I was able to make my Saves.  My Librarian helped in eliminating some of the Salamanders from afar.

Painting was really good last week also with 2 Units of 'Scouts with Sniper Rifles' completed, as of now both of these Units are needed in my 1500 Points list which will be needed for AdeptiCon.

Yesterday afternoon at 2:00 PM EST, registration for AdeptiCon 2020 opened to the public and I was ready and waiting at my PC.  I have a friend and is adult son back in Illinois who are starting up Warhammer 40K and we thought if the four of us all played in the Warhammer 40K Team Tournament, the marquee event at AdeptiCon.  Even though they did increase the number of teams allowed to register this year to 150, I knew it would be a ticket that may sell out quickly.

When registering for AdeptiCon, the best plan of attack is the add the Weekend Badge (mandatory) to your cart, and then the event that you most want to play in and proceed to checkout, a lot of people spend time adding everything and then when they checkout, some of their events have already sold out.  I added my badge and the Team Tournament and proceeded to checkout without any issues.  Once I received confirmation of my order, I then decided to go back and see if the Warhammer 40K Friendly was still available (another event that sells out quickly) and there were still 79 spots available.  I wanted to have a little bit of time to check out the Vendor Hall at the Con (I need to work on Thursday) but I went ahead and added the Friendly to my registration (I can go downstairs during lunch on Thursday and shop), and I was able to get the event.  Good thing, shortly after I checked out, the Friendly sold out.

The Warhammer 40K Team Tournament is 4 players playing with a 1000 point list (playing with 2 players / 2000 points), and the Warhammer 40K Friendly is a 1500 point list (hence the 2 Units of Scouts I completed last week).

So it looks like AdeptiCon 2020 will be a weekend filled of Warhammer 40K for me.

Weekly Chronicle 2019 #13 (AdeptiCon 2019 Recap)

Well, last week was a pretty good week for me especially with AdeptiCon 2019 and I was able to get another model completed ('Steeljaw') before we left for the event.

Games played last week was really good too (obviously with a convention), I managed to play 8 games last week, which is not really that much, but I did not want to stress myself over the weekend.

Here is just a quick recap of AdeptiCon 2019 for my son and I, you can go back for a little bit more detail here: Day 1, Day 2, Day 3, Day 4

Wednesday: This was mainly just a travel day for us with badge check-in later in the evening.
Thursday: Vendor Hall shopping followed by 2 games of Guild Ball in the Early Bird Open.
Friday: This became an off day for me with a demo game of Aristeia! and a friendly game of Guild Ball vs Alex Botts.  I was originally signed up for X-Wing and I would have played in X-Wing if my son was also signed up, but this was his day to play Batman Miniatures Game.
Saturday: This was 4 games of Guild Ball in the AdeptiCon Championships, followed by a birthday dinner at Tilted Kilt, and then watching the final round of the Guild Ball Championship.
Sunday: Sunday was suppose to be a big game of Chicago Bootleggers, but we decided to hit the road early and come back home at a decent time and spend the evening with the family.

I could have gotten in a few more friendly games over the weekend, but sometime it is just nice to sit down, drink, and chit chat with friends.

Now that I am home....I am honestly not sure how the rest of the year is going to play out...I have too many new games added and too many old games...

Stay tuned the rest of the week for some of the games added.

Daily Chronicle: AdeptiCon 2019 Day 4 3/30/2019

Well first off, Happy Birthday to me! yep today is my 45th Birthday and I spent the entire day playing in the AdeptiCon Guild Ball Championships.

The event started at 10:00 AM and after 4 games my son and I were ready to call it a day.  With 38 players registered, it was going to be a 6 Round event.

I started off my Game 1 vs an acquaintance Ray from Michigan, and his Butcher's managed to beat my Butcher's 12-8 and it was a very fun game.  I enjoy starting off tournaments against people I know.

Game 2 was another mirror matchup vs Max from Wisconsin.  This game Max totally controlled me and he easily won 12-0.  I started off 0-2 and my son was sitting 1-1.

Game 3 I got to play Justin from Indiana playing Fisherman (who actually I have met once at our South Bend store) and I actually pulled out a 12-4 win (even with a Goal by the Butcher's.

Game 4 was against another Fisherman Guild played by Doug  (who my son had beaten earlier), Doug had managed to get the win on me 12-4 but 'Shank' had missed 2 Goal's in the game that cost me the win.

At this time it was now 6:00 PM and we played 4 games that I was shooting for and I was happy to be sitting 1-3, my son also had finished 1-3.  It was now time to go out for a birthday dinner to Tilted Kilt.

Once we arrived back it was time to watch Alex Botts (Butcher's) vs Cory Burns (Farmer's) on Table 1 for the Guild Ball Championship, Alex Botts won the game 12-6 and it was interesting watching him play.

There is a lack of pictures for today since I was busy playing most of the day.

March 29, 2019

Daily Chronicle: AdeptiCon 2019 Day 3 3/29/2019

Friday was Day 3 for AdeptiCon and it did not go as scheduled for myself.  My son went downstairs early for his Batman Miniatures Game tournament and I was heading down an later and I was entered in the X-Wing System Open Qualifier.  At the last minute I decided to bail out on the event and continue to check out the vendor hall.

I wanted to get in a demo game of Arestia! from Corvus Belli, so one of the founders of Corvus Belli, Carlos game taught me how to play the game.  This was the game I was eyeing before coming to AdeptiCon as a quick play game to have done within an hour.  I enjoyed the game a lot, so stay tuned next week for some posts about it.

When I was done with the vendor hall for the morning, I decided to head upstairs for lunch and a quick break before heading back down with my Guild Ball stuff.  If someone was going to ask to play, I might as well get a game in.

While watching my friend Josh play a friendly with his Fisherman's Guild, Alex Botts (World's #1 Player) asked me if I wanted to get a game in...hell yea!  Since I know Alex like to play Butcher's and that is the Guild I was playing, I asked if he wanted to play the mirror match-up, he decided to bring out the new Cook's Minor Guild for our game.  Alex totally controlled the flow of the game, yes I managed a Take Out, yes I managed a Goal, but he just dominated the pitch for a 12-6 win with his Cook's, it was fun game though and Alex is a friendly player to play against.

After that game was over, it was time for re-fill of my cup with some Jim Beam. well that was a mistake, when that drink was done, I found myself back in the vendor hall making another new game purchase with Judgement.  It seems my friends from Grand Rapids are all getting into this game so I decided to get 3 models for myself and 3 models for my son and we can start some 3v3 battles.  Hopefully we'll be able to get up there for a few games.

Once my son was done with his BMG tournament which he finished 1-3 it was time to get some dinner at one of my favorite Italian Beef places, Buona (better than Portillo's).  When he got back we headed to the 2nd floor and hang out with some friends watching some Judgement games.

Tomorrow is the big day with the AdeptiCon Guild Ball Championships.

Daily Chronicle: AdeptiCon 2019 Day 2 3/28/2019

Day 2 for AdeptiCon has come and gone.  Today was going to be our shopping day with a little bit of gaming.

The vendor hall opened up at 10:00 AM and we were downstairs right when it opened.  We walked up and down each aisle just handing my wallet to every vendor we see, not really but we did purchase a lot.  Mainly I was able to purchase the items I needed with once exception.  It seems like each year there is always a new game I want to get into, well just before AdeptiCon I was eyeing a new game and I did make the purchase, I am saving that post for when I arrive back home.

Some of the vendors we did purchase from were : Broken Egg Games (Tharn CID and Destiny tokens), Muse On Minis (Miners, Cooks. New Captain tokens), Army Painter (washers), and some terrain for Batman Miniatures Game (dumpsters and bus stop).

Once shopping was completed it was time to get ready for the Guild Ball Early Bird Open.  With then event starting at 3:00 PM, we had a feeling we would only be playing 2 games before we headed out for dinner, sure enough after 2 games it was about 7:00 PM so we headed our to Red Robin.  I did want to say that really enjoyed my second game vs Nathan Pullan and his Fisherman, it was a close lose for my Butcher's 10-12.

After dinner my son and I decided to get in a friendly game of Guild Ball and I decided to play something different with my Captain being 'Filet', another close one and I lost this game 10-12 also but lost the last point on the clock.

It was a pretty long day today wrapping up our gaming around 11:00 PM.

Tomorrow we have the X-Wing System Open Series.

March 28, 2019

Daily Chronicle: AdeptiCon 2019 Day 1 3/27/2019

Day 1 for AdeptiCon was mainly a travel day for my son and I.  We left Michigan around noon our time and made it slowly towards the Chicagoland area.

On our way we stopped at a gaming store in Lemont called Gamestorm that I had heard about to check out the store and see what they have in stock.  I knew they carried a decent range of Warmachine/Hordes models so I wanted to check to see if they had any of the new Circle models for mys son.  Sure enough they did, they had the new Warlock, 'Iona the Unseen', so we purchased her a few bottle of paint and got back into the car.

We arrived to the hotel sometime around 3:00 PM and proceeded to check-in and luckily our room was ready for us, then it was just the usual of unloading the car.

Once we were all settled it was time to go downstairs and get the lay of the land, similar to last years setup.  We ran into Jeff Chua, one of the founders of AdeptiCon and a gaming friend from back in the day and we chatted for awhile to catch up.  We did talk about the expansion of AdeptiCon and there is not really any more venues that AdeptiCon cold move into besides the convention center in Rosemont (which because of the union, the badge prices would have to double).   I did not want to keep him to occupied since he looked busy still setting everything up so we then parted our ways.

Toledo Game Room was already setup outside the main vendor hall with their tables selling items and we went over to check what they had.  I did purchase a Guild Ball pin which was 40% off and couple of the new Citadel painting handles in 50mm.

We then proceeded fo an earlier dinner so we could come back for badge check-in to one of my favorite restaurants in the area, Yu's Mandarin, back from the day when I used to work up here.

After dinner it was about time for AdeptiCon badge pick up and the line was forever long.  We decided to catch a movie in the room (Tag) and then check the line afterwards.  That was a smart idea, when we headed back down, there basically was no line and we walked right up to the "U-Z" line.

I only purchased one swag bag this year, there was no need for us to have double the items, and to be honest I do not think we will be using any of it.  Warhammer Underworlds is a thought, but the models are not do anything for me.  TANKS is also an option and something I had thought about.  I am glad Steamforged Games included an item, but it is the first Farmer's Guild box which I already have.  The big item in the bag was the starter set A Song Of Ice & Fire from CMON, this box set retails for $150.00  The box says the game is played in 45-60 minutes, so this may be an option, I am looking for the quick play games.

OK.... time to get ready for Day 2.

March 27, 2019

Daily Chronicle: AdeptiCon 2019 Officially Starts Today!

AdeptiCon 2019 officially starts today and in just a few hours my son and I will hit the road and make our way to Schaumburg, IL.  The drive is not bad at all, only 2.5 hours and we'll take our time getting there.  Hotel check-in is not till like 3-4 PM so there is not much to do beforehand since badge pickup does not start till 7:00 PM.

I believe we have everything all ready to go for the car.  Guild Ball Guilds and accessories, Batman Miniature Game models, X-Wing ships all fit in our Battlefoam Tournament Bag.  Then we are bringing some Arena Rex with us packed in the black Battlefoam bag (with terrain) in case we want to get in some open gaming Friday night and show our friend Frank how it plays.

Stay tuned for updates through out the weekend!

Weekly Chronicle 2019 #12 (Week of AdeptiCon 2019)

"Monday, Monday, so good to me"
It was a pretty good week for me last week and this week will be even better with AdeptiCon 2019 starting in just 2 days on Wednesday.  Check-in begins Wednesday night and all the gaming and shopping begins on Thursday.

Let's recap week #12 first before we move onto this week.  Although I did not play any games during the week, I did manage to get in 2 games of X-Wing on Saturday and 2 games of Guild Ball on Sunday, those 4 games were very much needed for this week events.

I also managed to get some painting done with completing 2 models and started work on a 3rd.  Limited Edition 'Mataagi' for the Falconer's Guild and the new Captain 'Mourn' for the Mortician's Guild were completed this past week.

Now we move onto the biggest event of the year, AdeptiCon 2019, and I am so looking forward to attending this year.  AdeptiCon 2019 which is in it's 17th year, will actually be my 10th year attending.  I missed out on the very first AdeptiCon 2002, but started attending with 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2017 and 2018.  Between 2010-2017 I was living out west in Arizona so my son and I had attended some of the West Coast events like the Las Vegas Open and Privateer Press Lock & Load.  Since moving back to the Midwest, this is the cant miss event each year.

What a difference a year makes in this hobby.  Last year I was attending AdeptiCon and mainly playing in Warmachine/Hordes events, the previous year in 2017 it was Bolt Action, and now in 2019 it  is mainly Guild Ball with some X-Wing.

Wednesday is going to be our travel day, not that we are traveling that far (2 hours), but in order to get a hotel room onsite, I had to book the 4 night which runs Wednesday-Saturday nights.  We will probably leave mid-afternoon and get there right about check-in time for the hotel.  Get our bags all moved up to the room and then go out and get some dinner.  AdeptiCon badge check-in does not begin till 7:00 PM, so sometime after dinner we will start to wait in line.

Thursday is our shopping day in the morning, followed by the Guild Ball Early Bird Open at 3:00 PM.  The Early Bird Open was set at 16 players, but I hear they may open it up to more which will cause the event to go later into the night.  My goal for the event is to at least play 2 games and then we shall see what happens.  In regards to shopping, right now I have a fairly small list (mainly needed paints/supplies), but there is always something that catches my eye like a new game to get into.  There is a game that caught my attention last year, and I may have to take another look at it again this year (we shall see).  I am currently happy with what I am currently gaming (mainly Guild Ball and X-Wing) and I still have Arena Rex and a lot of Warmachine/Hordes.....plus I have to finish models for MeSBG.

Friday is my day for X-Wing and the System Open Qualifier, this will actually be my very first X-Wing tournament.  With the System Open Qualifier once you acquire 2 losses you are eliminated, so I think it will be a fairly early day for me, that is ok, more time for shopping and demos.  For my son, it is his day to play in the Batman Miniature Games tournament, he does not get to play BMG that often (actually hardly ever) so he is really looking forward to this event and will be playing all the rounds until it finishes around 6:00 PM.

Saturday is the Guild Ball AdeptiCon Championships and both my son and I are playing.  Like on Thursday, depending on time we shall see how many rounds we will be playing in.  I think we can play 4 rounds and still make it to dinner at a pretty decent time, maybe even 5 rounds.  This is my main attraction for the weekend, so who knows, we may play all rounds and then go out for my birthday dinner.

Sunday was going to be a relaxing day with some last minute shopping before heading home, but at the last minute we added a small event called Chicago's Bootleggers and it is just a small skirmish game taking place during the Prohibition.

Stay tuned this week as I do some daily recaps from AdeptiCon 2019.

Weekly Chronicle 2018 #46 (AdeptiCon Registration)

It was a pretty slow week for me in gaming and hobbying and hopefully this coming week will be a little better.  I got busy with the organization of my Guild Ball items.  I had a few more dice/token trays I need to put together for the Ratcatchers and Falconers, and then all the work I did to be able to print out Single Side Cards for Guild Ball (Part 1, Part 2).  The only game that was played was a 3v3 matchup this past Thursday night.

I did manage to get one model completed for the Blacksmith's Guild with 'Hearth', and I do have a few models just about ready to be completed and they will be posted this week, along with hopefully some more Battle Reports.  Planning to get in a full game of Guild Ball in tonight, then we shall see how the rest of the week goes, I have a feeling Thursday night after turkey I may just crash, then maybe get in a game or two on Friday since it is a day off for me.

AdeptiCon 2019 registration opened up yesterday at 1:00PM CST and I was ready to go with 2 computers opened, one for me and one for my son (although it looked liked I could have completed my son registration together with mine, but I did not want to take the chance, I will have to ask them for next year).  Registration went nice and smooth for me, although I did hear some people complaining about the process.  This year they used a queue system to get you into registration, for me, I did not have to wait, but for my son I had to wait.  The wait was not long, by the time I completed my registration, I was entered into the system for my son.

So what did I register for? It was close to what I had mentioned in my Daily Chronicle last Tuesday, with the exception for Sunday.  I had originally thought about playing in the Godtear Beginner's Draft Tournament, but since my son had the whole weekend off for AdeptiCon (except to help with his stores tear down on Sunday afternoon) I decided to change up Sunday.  My son does not have any X-Wing on his schedule, so we thought we would leave Sunday to try the X-Wing 8 Player Hangar Bay On Demand Pods.  I could not purchase a ticket for the Hangar Pods online (probably since there is no dedicated time slot, it starts when they have 8 player) so I am guessing we will need to pay the $10 onsite.

So here is my schedule (as of now) for AdeptiCon 2019:

Thursday: Guild Ball Early Bird Open 3:00 PM- 9:00 PM
Friday: X-Wing System Open Qualifier 10:00 AM - 7:00 PM
Saturday: Guild Ball AdeptiCon Championships 10:00 AM - 8:00 PM
Sunday: X-Wing Hangar Bay On Demand Pods 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM

Unfortunately I could not get any Arena Rex in, most of it interfered with above, and I did not feel like gaming on Friday until 12:00 AM (with their Friday event).  Since I am driving and have room in the car, I will probably bring my models/mat/terrain and maybe get in some open play (if I can get my models completed/painted in time).  That may be a good back up plan for Sunday morning if the Hangar Bay Pods are not filling up.

Since I am arriving on Wednesday afternoon this year, it looks like my shopping day will be Thursday morning and then on Friday if I lose out of the X-Wing tournament.  I am not sure how much I will be able to spend this year, I need to keep it realistic.

Daily Chronicle: AdeptiCon 2019 Event Schedule Preview

One of the benefits of moving back to the Midwest a few years ago was the ability to drive to AdeptiCon each year, I've been to AdeptiCon in the beginning, a few events in the middle and 2019 will mark 3 years in a row again for me.

AdeptiCon is not until March 27th-31st, but every November before, registration for the events opens with as much information they can provide for the event (some other organizers need to take note...WMW).  Well this year is no different and registration will open this Sunday November 19th.  The good people who run AdeptiCon also give us a sneak peek at the list of events at least a week beforehand and this past weekend the site went live with the majority of their events.  You can click HERE for the event preview.

The day the preview site goes live is a happy day for most of us as we can start planning our AdetiCon weekend, sometimes there is a little disappointment if the events you want to play in overlap with each.

For AdeptiCon 2019, the list of events I was thinking about were; Arena Rex, Guild Ball, X-Wing, and possibly some Warmachine/Hordes.  My son is die hard set on playing Batman Miniature Game, and his choices may be limited to either working a booth at AdeptiCon or staying back and having to work at his store.  We are going to have to narrow down his schedule this week.

I told myself Arena Rex was going to be a must for me at AdeptiCon 2019, well with the release of the schedule, that game is looking pretty slim.  Season 4 of Guild Ball has gotten me excited for the game again and will be my main concentrated game in 2019 and the Guild Ball AdeptiCon Championships is the same day as the Arena Rex Open Championships.  Arena Rex does start a bit later in the day and I could drop out after 1-2 games of Guild Ball, but my plan is stay for all the rounds of Guild Ball.  Arena Rex is also offered on Thursday night with a 3v3v3 battle and another smaller tournament on Friday night.  Both of those overlap with other events we want to to do.  Thursday afternoon will be my son's only chance to play Guild Ball, so we will both be playing in the Early Bird Open and on Friday he will be playing all day in the Batman Miniature Game, and when it ends more than likely will not want to play Arena Rex for another 6 hours till midnight.  I could play Arena Rex on Friday night, but that leave no time with my son that day.  So like I said Arena Rex looks very slim in 2019.

That leaves me with Friday and Sunday to find events for.  On Friday I am leaning towards playing in the X-Wing System Open Qualifier, I have never played in a X-Wing tournament and will probably lose right away, but like with the new rule set for Guild Ball, X-Wing 2.0 has me liking the game a lot.  I think we'll give it a shot.

So now on Sunday...most of time I cut out early and head back home, but there is a game that ha peaked my interest a little bit.  Steamforged Games for the last year has been promoting a new game called Godtear, it will actually be released just after AdeptiCon.  They are running some smaller sized beginner/intro tournaments through out the weekend and this might be something I look into on Sunday before heading home.

You may be asking what about Warmachine/Hordes....I think for AdepiCon 2019 (and most of 2019), WMW will take a back burner for me (besides a few games here at home with my son).

I still have until Sunday to decide, but my AdeptiCon 2019 weekend is looking like:

Thursday: Guild Ball Early Bird Open 3:00 PM- 9:00 PM
Friday: X-Wing System Open Qualifier 10:00 AM - 7:00 PM
Saturday: Guild Ball AdeptiCon Championships 10:00 AM - 8:00 PM
Sunday: Godtear Beginner's Draft Tournament 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM

Next Monday in my Weekly Chroncile, I will let you all what I decided on.

Weekly Chronicle 2018 #37

Another week has flown by and at least I did manage to get a few models completed last week ('Nero' for Arena Rex and 'The King of the Dead' for MeSBG) and a game of Arena Rex played on Saturday night.  My son and I were hoping to also try X-Wing 2.0 after our Arena Rex game, but the organizing of all the new 2.0 items is taking longer than expected.

This week we are hoping to get in some more games of Arena Rex with my friend TJ, and more than likely finally trying out X-Wing 2.0.  We'll see if time allows to get in another game of MeSBG.

Warmachine Weekend is approaching fast in early November, and to be honest, right now I am not to excited about it.  I think the main reason is the lack of information from the event organizers.  Their website has been offline all year, and with 45 days left till the start of the event, there still is no information.  A few weeks back I even posted on their Facebook page, with no response.  It would be nice to see what events are happening so I know what armies I want to bring with and play.  If it was not for their "no refund" policy, I think I would have asked for a refund.  I am still thinking about sending them an email asking for a refund for their lack of information.

I have too many games and not enough time, new TV shows are starting up next week and it is going to get even worse.

Also in early November, AdeptiCon will be releasing their events schedule (take note Warmachine Weekend) and I need to decide what I will be playing in 2019.  More than likely I will be giving Arena Rex a try at AdeptiCon, after that, I will need to see what fits in my schedule around Arena Rex, and what games are still interesting to me.  Who knows, it may be some MeSBG, X-Wing, or even Batman.
