Guild Ball: New Guilds Inbound For Me

Seeing how I just about have every model for my Engineer's Guild in Guild Ball (minus two models, which I will eventually purchase), I thought it was time to expand my Guilds.  When my son and I purchased the Kick Off starter set I did receive the Brewer's Guild from the box, but I wanted to expand even more.

From when I first heard/learned about Guild Ball, the Fisherman's playstyle (high scoring) always intrigued me.  But painting the shades of blue had deterred me.  Well no longer, this past Friday I went and ordered the Starter set along with 'Salt', 'Sakana', 'Greyscales' and 'Jac'.

Then yesterday while I was sick in bed, I was reading the new Season 3 rulebook and my son texted me and mentioned he liked the Alchemist's Guild.  So I decided to take a closer look at them.  Seeing how I already have 'Compound' for my Engineer's that can also play for the Alchemist's (that's one model down), I thought why not let's add the Alchemist's Guild also.  For the Alchemist's I purchased the Starter set, 'Naja', 'Katalyst' and 'Vitriol'.

I have always been the type of hobbier that loves to collect different armies, then attempt to paint them, and then finally play a game.  Seeing how with each Guild all you need is a minimum of 6 players on the Pitch, I can see myself eventually collecting all the Guilds.

So stay tuned the month of May while I work on my Alchemist's and Fisherman's.

Guild Ball: Engineer's Guild 'Compound'

Last Friday the new Season 3 Rulebook for Guild Ball was released (a very nice book with great artwork) and along with my order I decided to include another model for my Engineer's Guild.  After seeing what the Fisherman can do to me in scoring, I thought maybe it may be fun to try a Goalkeeper against them next time.  The Engineer's Guild now have access to two Goalkeepers, 'Compound' and 'Veteran Velocity'.  I decided to go with 'Compound' since I really like playing with the normal 'Velocity' on the Pitch (and you cannot have two of the same named models on the Pitch at the same time).

One thing to note about 'Compound' is that he can actually play for two different Guilds, the Alchemist's and the Engineer's.

I can really see myself using his Character Trait Rush Keeper a lot along with his Character Play Horrific Odor.  Hopefully those two together will slow the Fisherman down.

Bolt Action: United States 'Lieutenant Richard Winters'

"Lieutenant Richard 'Dick' Winters, made famous as the main character in the TV show Band of Brothers, Major Winters was the highly decorated commander of ‘Easy Company’, part of the US 101st Airborne Division, during World War II."

Back in June 2014, Historicon worked with Warlord Games and released a special 30th Anniversary Special Miniature fitting tribute to Richard 'Dick' Winters.

My son and I were not able to attend Historicon (we were living in Arizona and Historicon is on the East Coast) but Warlord Games was selling the model on their online store for that weekend.  So I made note in my calendar and had to make sure that I ordered it for my son.

Fast forward three years and yesterday Lt. Winters finally saw my painting table.  Unfortunately he his modeled with a Rifle, and in Bolt Action most people play their Lieutenants's with SMG's, but it would be nice change once in awhile for him to hit the battlefield.

Bolt Action: United States 'Paratrooper Lieutenant Team (Late War)'

We actually had a pretty decent weather day today (50 and Sunny) so that meant I was going have to be ooutside again early afternoon doing more yard work (the drawbacks of owning a house).  If I wanted to get any painting done it was going to have to be first thing in the morning, and that is what I did.

I have yet to clean the flash and glue the models for my sons's second Paratrooper Squad, so I decided to work on his Lieutenant's Team today and a special character I'll be posting tomorrow morning.

Bolt Action: United States 'Paratrooper Squad 1 (Late War)'

After finishing my son's Airborne Bazooka Teams the other day, I decided to go ahead and start on his first Paratrooper Squad.  The problem was I had nothing assembled or primed that was ready for painting.  So it took me a little while to go through his models and assemble the two Squad that he will be running in his Market Garden list along with cleaning the models up and getting them glued to their bases.

For his list I decided to go with x1 NCO w/SMG, x4 SMG and x7 Rifles.  Both squads will be identical and both will start with the 'Full Strength' rule (in case he needs it early on.)

I still have to assemble the second Squad so I will probably move onto getting his LT/Team completed first.  Then we'll take a short break from the United States and see what hits the painting table.

Bolt Action: United States 'Airborne Bazooka Teams 1 & 2'

For next years AdeptiCon 2018 my son and I will be playing in the Bolt Action Team Tournament.  Jeremy runs the Team Tournament to be more of a themed event and for everyone to have fun, where as the top award in the event is Best Sportsman.  My son and I always wanted to add Airborne Units to our armies, so we decided that we will do a 'Market Garden' themed army.  My son will be playing United States, and I will paint up some British for myself.

I still have plenty of time to paint before AdeptiCon 2018, but I thought I might as well slowly get started so that I am not rushed last minute next year.  This also gives us time to modify our lists in case anything changes rules wise or points wise.  For now we are basing our armies on 1600 points (800/800) as were the rules for this year.

When most people think of the uniforms for the United States Airborne, they think of movies like 'Saving Private Ryan' or TV shows like 'Band of Brothers', but for 'Operation Market Garden', the United States Airborne were issued the new M1943 uniform which was a darker shade of green.

I was curious how they guys would turn out with the M1943 uniforms and painted up my sons Bazooka Teams yesterdy as test subjects.  I am actually really happy the way they turned out and think 800 points painted like this will look real nice.

Guild Ball: Engineer's Guild 'Pin Vice'

In between doing some yard work (just a little, I hate yard work), I was actually able to get my final model for my Engineer's Guild completed.  'Pin Vice' is my second Captain for the Guild.  Most Engineer players play with 'Ballista' as their Captain, but now with another new Mechanica model for Engineer's 'Locus', I can see her maybe being used a bit more.  She is the scoring Captain for the Guild, I can possibly see going all Mechanica when playing against the Fisherman to try and out score them.

Guild Ball: Engineer's Guild 'Salvo'

While working on 'Ratchet' the other day, I cheated a little and applied a few colors here to 'Salvo'.  Then yesterday I was able to finish him up and get his base done.

Since I like to play Guild Ball to score, 'Salvo' is a good Winger for my Guild.  My problem is, my Guild also has a lot of other good players and it is tough to get them to fit in.

I have one more model to complete for my the original Engineer's I purchased, and that is 'Pin Vice'.  My plan is to start working on her today and hopefully finish her up tomorrow morning.

Guild Ball: Engineer's Guild 'Ratchet'

"Considered somewhat of a maverick by other members of the guild, Ratchet is often the creative mind behind their latest inventions. He wields his explosive bombs at matches, and ensures the mechanical players remain fully operational through the bloodiest of games."

It has been a few days since we seen a painted model here.  I had a Guild Ball game this past Tuesday night (which I lost 12-4 vs Fisherman) so I did not want to have to start a model and be interupted.

I had only three more models left to complete for my Engineer's Guild,  'Ratchet', 'Salvo', and 'Pin Vice'.  I decided to paint 'Ratchet' next since he is just about a 'gimme' in any Engineer's Roster.  His abilities to help other Mechanica models really helps this team.

Guild Ball: Engineer's Guild 'Ballista'

I'd like to welcome you all to the Captain of the Engineering Guild.......'Ballista'.

Every Guild Ball has a Captain and it was about time I finally got my painted.  I started with the slightly easier models (the Mechanica) to get an idea of the colors I wanted to use, and now it was time to move onto some of the other models.  Unlike his counter-part at the Captain position, 'Ballista' is a bit more of a brute.  'Pin Vice' is more for scoring and 'Ballista' can just about stand his ground.  Dont get me wrong, I am playing Guild Ball for th scoring aspect of the game, but I also need a few models that wont be asily taken out.  On a plus side, I really like his Legendary Play Breach!

Hordes: Minions Swamp Horror (Warbeast)

At AdeptiCon late March, I picked up a lot of Minions models and I am just about half way throough them.  The Batte Engine is still on that list and that one will take some time and dedication to complete.  There are not a lot of Minion models, let alone Hordes models that I do not like, and Swamp Horror is one of those that really does 'nothing' for me.  I could not really get into painting this model and fely more like 'let's just get it done', and it shows.  I can definitely say it is not one of my best models.  I think it has to do with the shade of blue/green (it was also giving me issues when I was painting my Trollbloods).  I probably should have gone with the shades of green I've been using for my Minions, but elected to go more with the studio color.

Changing the pace for the next model and back to Guild Ball.

Hordes: Minions Targ (Solo)

The Minion Faction is broken down into two groups, the Gatorman, and the Farrows.  Prior to the release of MkIII you had to either play all Gatorman or all Farrows.  With the release of MkIII last Summer, the Minions can now mix and match with one exception.  Gatorman Warlocks must use Gatorman Warbeasts and Farrow Warlocks must use Farrow Warbeasts.  The rest of the Units can now be mixed.

As I mentioned in my last two posts, I have been working on painting models for the new Blindwater Theme (Gators), which excludes the use of any Farrow models.  But just prior to the release of the Theme, I had purchased a few Farrow models.  'Targ' is my first Farrow model that hit my painting table and is completed.  Will he see any action that the new Theme is out, I hope so.  Although the new Theme helps out the Gatorman Posse Unit, there are still a lot of strong lists for Minions that do not fit into Theme.  'Targ' is an Attachment to a Minion Warlock and really helps out the Warbeasts in the Battlegroup.
