My final Infantry Section for my British Army was completed last night, well at least 'final' for now, the British will be my ever growing future army.  I now have four Infantry Sections comnpleted and it gives me the option to play 1 or 2 Platoons.

I still have quite a few vehicles to complete for them and the 'army deal' also came with a unit of 'SAS NW Europe Section' that I would also like to eventually complete.  Besides working on more vehicles (like Bren Carriers), I need to start working on my Airborne models  for my British and my sons US Army for next years AdeptiCon Team Tournament.

Bolt Action: Great Britain 'Daimler MKI'

If you saw yesterday's post on my Cromwell Cruisers, you may have noticed this guy in the background in one of the pictures.  While I had the airbrush out, I wanted to get as many vehicles basecoated as possible.  I knew I could handle finishing three vehicles at once.

The Daimler MKI Armoured Car will make a nice addition to my British Army, especually useful in smaller point games where I feel a tank may take up too many points.  I never had a 'Recce' vehicle before in any of my armies, so this is a first.  I know they changed the rules on them in Version 2 of Bolt Action, I guess it's time to re-read that section.

Bolt Action: Great Britain 'Cromwell Cruiser MKVIII Tanks'

Well I am proud to say that my twins are born, 'Andrea' and 'Juno'!

This past weekend when I finished up Dahlia Hallyr & Skarath for my Hordes Minions, my plan was to continue painting another Minion model.  Then later that Saturday evening I was thinking about the upcoming AdeptiCon Bolt Action Tournament at the end of this month and started to play around with British lists for the event.  My original plan for the Bolt Action US Nationals was to either play my Germans, or my Soviets (was leaning towards my Soviets).  I was thinking what else would I need to finish for my British Army to have 1250 points fully painted.  I knew I have to finish my fourth Infantry Section, but what else.  Well it turns out I needed to get one of my tanks also completed.

When I purchased my British Army at the end of Decemeer 2016, the army deal I purchased came with 4 tanks.  2 Cromwell Cruiser MKVIII, 1 Sherman Firefly VC, 1 M10 Wolverine.  Well a Cromwell Cruiser would fit right into my list.  Also in order for me to get my list to work I need to run 2 Platoons in my list.  I have always played Bolt Action with just 1 Platoon, so this will be a first.  My Order Dice total came out to 16, which I feel is pretty good.  The Soviet list I have been thiking about using comes out to 13.  This would give me 3 extra dice to think of some strategies, plus with 2 Lieutenants in my Army, I can do a 'Snap to Action' with both of them.

I did not come to a conclusion if I will be playing the British yet (I have till this Saturday to submit my list to the TO) but on Sunday I decided it was time to build a tank.  Since I had 2 Cromwells, I decided to build them both at the same time and since I was going to have to break out my airbrush for the basecoat, I also decided to build a Daimeler Armoured Car.

The tanks assembly was completed later on Sunday and on Monday night the painting started and I was able to complete these two last night.

The Cromwell Cruiser MKVIII first saw action in June 1944 in Normandy, and at this time, all Allied vehicles were to have a 'white five-pointed star' painted on them for air recognition.

Bolt Action: Great Britain 'Infantry Section 3'

Three down and one to go to complete the four Infantry Sections for my British Army.  All four units are equipped the same, M=NCO with SMG, LMG and his Loader, 2 SMG and 6 Rifles.  11 men (an extra SMG for Late Ware Veterans).

Once I finish the fourth Infantry Section then I can move onto some of the vehicles I have for the army.  I have a 650 point tournament coming up at the end of April where this army will make it's debut.  For that list I still need to paint up a Daimler Armoured Car.  I thought a Tank would be too many points in a 650 point game, but I still wanted a light vehicle just in case.  It will have a Light AT gun in case I do face any tanks and it also has a coxial MMG in case I face all Infantry lists.  I will also have my 25 pdr Light Howitzer which also can be fire as a Light AT (so two chances at any tanks).

When I paint vehicles, I use an airbrush to paint the base coat.  So I do not want to get my station all setup just for one vehicle.  So I think it may be till at least April before I get to the Armoured Car.  I'd like to get at least two of my tanks assembled also and then base coat them all at the same time.  We will see how we are on the time schedule.  The event is not till April 29th, so I still have some time.

Bolt Action: Great Britain 'Infantry Section 2'

This week I continued working on my Brtish Army.  For now I will have 4 Units of Infantry Sections, with one of them being completed last week and now the second one being completed last night.

Like I mentioned with the first Infantry Section  I modeled these Units with 11 men (max for a Unit is 10).  I wanted to have an extra SMG weapon in case I use them as Late War Veterans.

 

After I finished with these guys, I decided I wanted to find out how many points I have completed for the British.  With just using a Morale as 'Regular', I have 985 points completed.  This is spread across 2 Platoons at the moment (since a lot of Units are classfied as 0-1).  I think once I get around to completing all the vehicles I have for this Army, I am guessing it may be over 3000 points of British.

Bolt Action: Great Britain 'Lieutenant 1 & 2'

After I finished painting up my Blackhide Wrastler model for Hordes the other night, I had a little time to spare before the weekend arrived when I will start to work on my son's US 76mm Sherman Tank.

I did not want to get deep involved in a full 11 man Infantry Section for my British, so I thought I'd get to the Lieutenant Teams I have.  I already painted an Officer Team last month for my British Army, but that was the metal Command models and they were not armed the way I would like my Team to be.  Since I had some extra men from my Warlord sprues, I put together two Lt. Teams armed with SMG's.  I decided to build two Teams in case I decide to run two platoons in the future.  More and more events are now allowing 1 or 2 Platoons in the Tournaments.

Basically these two Teams were painted like twins.  I did 'mark' them with the static grass I used.  1 stripe for Team 1 and 2 stripes for Team 2.

Bolt Action: Great Britain 'Infantry Section 1'

I finally got some models completed this month after having last weekend off attending the Las Vegas Open. Just before leaving to the LVO, my additional sprues from Warlord Games finally arrived so I could finish modeling my Infantry Sections.

Each Infantry Section can consist between 5-10 men, I decided to model my Sections with 11 men (an extra man carring an SMG so I could also use them as Late War Veteran Infantry Sections.

These 11 men are kitted as follows: NCO (SMG), 2x SMG, 1x LMG, 1x LMG Loader, 6x Rifles.

My remaining 3 Infantry Sections are also kiited the same. The plan is to get them completed later this month or maybe even in March.

The plan this week is to work on a Hordes Minion 'Wrastler' model, then next Saturday I am going to start on my sons US 76mm Sherman by Trenchworx that he picked up last weekend at the LVO. Then next Sunday is our local Bolt Action gaming day. So I do not think I'll be seeing any more British Infantry this week on the painting table. We shall see what is in store for next week.

Daily Chronicle: The British Have Landed

It a was a good end of the week for me for deliveries.  First on Thursday my British sprues from Warlord Games finally arrived.  These were ordered just after Christmas while they had their 50% off sale on sprues.  So I needed two sprues each of Late War Infantry and Weapons so I could flush out my four units of Infantry.  Each Infantry can have 10 men, but I modeled 11 for each (an extra SMG for Late War).  Then with the Infanry sprues, I was also able to make two Officer Teams with SMG's.  This way if I ever decide to play with two platoons, I will have a Lt. for each.

Then on Friday my 1000 pt British Airborne models arrived.  These will hit the painting table once I get my Late War British done.  The deadline to complete these models is AdeptiCon 2018, so I still have plenty of time.  Instead of playing 'Operation Market Garden' themed lists with my sons US Airborne, we decided we be doing a 'Normandy' themed list instead.  The rules for this year are 800 pts each (not sure if they will stay the same for next year), we have yet to think about any list building.  Maybe over dinner in Las Vegas next week we'll start playing with some lists.

Bolt Action: Great Britain '25-PDR Howitzer & Limber'

The 25 pounder was the key howitzer used by the British Army throughout World War 2 and beyond. It was found in every theatre of war.

Over the last two days I was able to work on another Artillery piece for my British Army, the 25-PDR Howitzer. In Bolt Action, this gun counts as a light howitzer. In Version 2 of Bolt Action, there is not a real need to have a tow for this gun (unless I want to move it farther onto board with reserves or units coming in on first wave) otherwise a light and medium artillery units can be issued a Run order and move 6" (instead of the normal 12" for Run). When being towed it is assumed that the gun has a limber, but since this model came with one, I thought it would be nice to also paint it up.

Bolt Action: Great Britain 'QF 6-PDR'

The QF 6-pdr was the highly successful replacement for the 2-pdr, being copied by the Americans as the 57mm gun, M1. Its useful lifespan was extended by new developments in ammunition that improved its armour penetration capabilities, allowing it to knock out Panthers and Tigers from the flank.

My first Artillery piece is completed for the British Army. This model will serve as a Medium Anti-Tank Gun. Usually I paint my armies Infantry first then followed by Weapons Teams and Artillery, guess I am doing the British backwards. Hopefully really soon I can start on the Infantry.

I am also still waiting for my British Airborne Army to arrive, once that does come in, I will be mixing in a few pieces here and there. Also once I come back from the LVO (first weekend in February), I shoud have my sons US Airborne Army with me and getting that ready to paint for AdeptiCon 2018 (yes 2018).

Bolt Action: Great Britain 'Medic & Flamethrower Team'

Originally I thought I would be assembling my QF 6-PDR yesterday, but I realized while going through my British army that I already a Medic and Flamethrower Team already assembled and ready for paint. So I decided to finish these guys up first before I tackled another assembly.

More than likely the Medic probably will not see much playing time unless I have some points to fill out, none the less thie model came with the British Army Command so I figure I would get him painted.

Now the Flamethrower Team will probably be played in all my lists. The Team is not as good as it was in Version 1 of Bolt Action, but they are still a pretty good Team especially when it comes time to burning Infantry occupied in buildings.

Bolt Action: Great Britain 'Medium Mortar Team x2'

So I am still diging through my box from Warlord on what to build/paint next (since I am STILL waiting on my Infantry sprues) and I decided to paint the Medium Mortar Team next. When I searched through the box, I noticed Warlord shipped me 2 3" Medium Mortars. The British Strategic Army deal was only suppose to come with 1, so I was a happy camper.

Seeing how more and more tournaments lately are allowing you build lists using either 1 or 2 Platoons, having the second Medium Mortar will be good if I ever decide to build a 2 Platoon list.

Obviously since the models are identical, it was a no brainer to build/paint them both at the same time.

This was yesterdays project (Saturday) and finished them just in time to relax and watch the football playoffs.

Bolt Action: Great Britain 'Vickers MMG'

Unfortunately still waiting for my sprues from Warlord Games to finish my British Infantry, but that's ok, plenty of other models to tackle (I could not believe how many models were included in their Christmas deal).

Up next we have the Vickers MMG (with Version 2 giving MMG's an extra shot, I feel these are needed).

Bolt Action: Great Britain 'AFO'

The British Army gets a free Forward Observer in Bolt Action as part of it's National Rules. While I was painting my Officer Team, I included this guy as well.

More than likely he will be played as an Artillery Forward Observer (AFO).

I probably should have modeled one with binoculars, but the Command pack came with this model holding a radio and thought he could also be used as one (otherwise I probably would not get any use of this model).
