Battle Report: Guild Ball 5/5/2019 Butcher's vs Hunter's

It has been a little while since my son and I played a Butcher's vs Hunter's match up at home (originally we were suppose to be at a tournament today, but issues with basement leaking kept me home so I can keep watch on it).

Since I recently received my Cook's Minor Guild, I wanted to finally get in a practice game with 'Cinnamon' along with Captain 'Veteran Boar' to see how the two work together.

The lineups that were played are as follows:

 V Boar
Princess
Boiler
V Ox
Cinnamon
Shank
 Theron
Snow
V Minx
Seenah
Jaecar
V Hearne

Once again as usual, the clock and me do not get along.  I was taking too much time with decisions and then executing them.  The extra movement in this game from 'Cinnamon' did not help too much, but I can see in certain  situations where it would help.

This game was pretty close all the way to the end.  My Butcher's were up only 4-2 and then I clocked into overtime and giving up 1 VP per activation.  I managed another 2 Taken Outs too bring up the score to 8-7 and I was coming down to my last minute of extra time.  At this point the Hunter's decided to go for a Goal with 'V Herne', it was a really nice Goal maneuver. but I feel it was a mistake as it gave the ball back to my Butcher's with a wide open 'Shank'.  Well that is exactly what happened with a perfectly placed Goal Kick, 'Shank' went on a Goal run and did a Bonus Time with the Kick, and luckily scored with 1 die for a 12-11 win.  Hunter's really should have won this game with me running out the clock.

Battle Report: Guild Ball 4/13/2019 Butcher's vs Blacksmith's

It has been just about two weeks since I last played a game of Guild Ball and that was at the Saturday AdeptiCon Championships.  Last weekend we were busy learning Aristeia! and re-learning Batman Miniature Game, but this weekend it was time to throw down some Guild Ball Game.

I have Spring Fling fast approaching at the the end of the month and need to get a few games in before going down.  Next weekend will be tough with my son being out of town, but I may be able to get in one more in a few days before heading to Spring Fling.

For yesterday's game I wanted to change thing up a bit from the last few games I was running with 'Veteran Boar' as my Captain, and go back to Ox especially versus a kicking team.  I am leaning towads running this list while receiving especially versus scoring teams.

The lineups for the Game were:

 Ox
Princess
Boiler
Shank
V Gutter
Tenderiser
 Furnace
Farris
Anvil
Alloy
Sledge
V Cinder

This game was different from how I usually play, and personally enjoyed myself while playing it.  Instead of getting 5-6 Taken Outs in a game, my Butcher' actually scored 2 Goals with 'Shank' while the Blacksmith's had 1 Goal.  I am not really sure yet if 'Tenderiser' was worth the slot in my lineup.  Yes he brought Influence to the game and held onto the ball for awhile, but besides that all he did was 4 damage, but maybe that is enough for him, it did provide the extra Influence to the rest of my team.

'Shank' ended up winning the game with a second Goal, but barely, 3 dice in Tap-in range and only hits one 3.

Butcher's won this one, 12-4.

Battle Report: Guild Ball 3/24/2019 Butcher's vs Hunter's (AdeptiCon Practice)

Seeing how last weekend I did not play in my own event "Cooking with a Roast", I needed some more practice games before I head off to AdeptiCon on Wednesday, so earlier today my son and I were able to get in 2 games (just like our 2 games of X-Wing practice on Saturday).

We both changed up our lineups a bit, I swapped in 'Brisket' this time with my 'Veteran Boar' Captain, and my son for the first time was trying the new Hunter's Captain 'Steeljaw'

The lineups that were played for Game 1 were:

 V Boar
Princess
Boiler
V Ox
Brisket
Shank
 Steeljaw
Snow
V Minx
Seenah
Jaecar
Egret

Like I usually do, I clocked out in this game.  My Butcher's were up 8-2 and then time expired and I lost 8-12.  Once Activation I must have spent like 15-20 minutes thinking about what to do, but 'V Boar' is still new to me and playing with 'Brisket' also changed some things up.  This is just practice and I need to learn from my mistakes.

For Game 2 my son changed his lineup once again and went back to a 'Theron' list, I decided to try the exact same lineup so I could get more practice in.

The lineups that were played for Game 2 were:

 V Boar
Princess
Boiler
V Ox
Brisket
Shank
 Theron
Fahad
V Minx
Seenah
Hearne
Mataagi

Game 2 went much better for me, especially Turn 1 where I was able to setup 'Veteran Ox' perfectly and pull in 4 Hunter's players into 'V Ox'.  The Butcher's were up 9-4 and I had two options to win the game, 'Shank' could charge 'Theron' under 'V Boars' Legendary and finish off 'Theron' and 'V Minx' for the win, or go for the game Game Winning goal.  The clock was getting close to the end of my first 45:00 minutes, so I elected to go for the Goal run with 'Shank', with a Bonus Time shot, 'Shank' scored the Goal hitting 4 with only 1 die.  Butcher's win 13-4.  This game I did play much faster, but I still had some time of slow play, I just need to quickly decide and execute.

I think for the Thursday "Early Bird Open" game at AdeptiCon, I'll probably go with the above list for at least 2 more practice games before Saturday.  Thursday's event does not start till 3:00 PM, so by the time Round 3 starts, it may be getting late for dinner.  I guess we'll play it by ear.

Battle Report: Guild Ball 3/13/2019 Navigator's vs Hunter's

Last night it was another game of Guild Ball, and I decided to give the Navigator's another try on the Pitch.

This time instead of playing with the box 6, I swapped out 'Horizon' for 'Angel' to help with a bit more scoring.  My son was practicing with his Hunter's once again, and his second time swapping 'Chaska' for 'Mataagi'.

Windfinder
Wander
Azimuth
Ebb
Fathom
Angel
 Theron
Fahad
V Minx
Seenah
Hearne
Mataagi

Proxy 'Horizon' for 'Angel', I was lazy to dig out the 'Angel' model.

I elected to Kick Off with 'Ebb' to get the match going.  This game was back and forth on the Pitch and on the Clock.  'Theron' used Pinned to stop an early Turn 1 Goal for my Navigators and it was no score after Turn 1 but a lot of clock was chewed up for both of us.

Turn 2 the Hunter's were able to get Taken Outs on 'Ebb', 'Windfinder' and 'Azimuth', but the Navigator's were able to get a nice Goal with a linked 'Fathom'/'Angel' activation.  By the time Turn 2 was over, the clock had expired for the Hunter's and it was close for my Navigators's,  end of Turn 2 it was 7-6 Navigator's.

Turn 3 the Hunter's did another Taken Out on 'Ebb' and the score was tied 8-8 and the extended 5:00 clock for the Hunter's had expired giving the Navigator's a 12-8 win.  We played out the next Activation and 'Angel' was able to easily retrieve the free ball and do a Tap-in shot on Goal and scored.

Battle Report: Guild Ball 3/10/2019 Butcher's vs Hunter's

Earlier today we were able to get in our second game of Season 4.1 of Guild Ball, along with my second time trying out the new Captain for the Butcher's, 'Veteran Boar'.

I also decided to try 'Meathook' in my lineup to see how often I get to use her Tooled Up.

The lineups that were played today were:

 V Boar
Princess
Boiler
V Ox
Meathook
Shank
 Theron
Snow
V Minx
Seenah
Mataagi
Hearne

Just like last week, the clock got the better of me and I clocked out once again, this time I was not able to win the game in the extra 5:00 minutes, close but not quite.  An earlier Goal run by 'Shank' missing with 3 dice really cost me.  I just could not get enough Taken Outs in time, and my Butcher's lost 10-12(2).  For a moral victory, I was able Take Out 'Theron' one last time with 'Veteran Boar' before the game officially expired.

'Meethook' got to use her Tooled Up only once in Turn 1 (which helped), but in later Turns I was not able to get it off because of order of activation's.

Battle Report: Guild Ball 3/3/2019 Butcher's vs Hunter's

Season 4.1 of Guild Ball started this past Friday March 1st and today my son and I just finished our first game with the new errata.

I decided to try out the new Captain for the Butcher's, 'Veteran Boar', and this was the first time my son was playing a nerfed 'Chaska' and slightly nerfed 'Seenah'.  I can say, I sure enjoyed only taking 4 damage from "Boombox" instead of the old 6.

The lineups that were played today were:

 V Boar
Princess
Boiler
V Ox
V Gutter
Shank
 Theron
Snow
V Minx
Seenah
Chaska
Hearne

Butcher's started off with the Victory Points first by taking out 'Hearne' during Turn 1 for the early 2-0 lead.  Turn 2, Butcher's won initiative and elected to go first.  'V Boar' activated first and used his Legendary and charged 'Theron'.  Unfortunately 'V Boar' whiffed on an attack, so 'Theron' was still standing.  'Theron' then attacked back and did some damage on 'V Boar'.  Now the Butcher's were lined up for a Goal run.  'Shank' picked up the free ball and did a 4" towards 'Chaska' and getting within 'V Boar's' Legendary Aura.  'Shank' then did his free Charge against a damaged 'Chaska' gaining an additional 2" and proceeded to attack.  'Shank' managed to wrap and did Momentous 4 damage and a 3" Dodge towards the Goal, he then proceeded to take the Tap-In shot on Goal with Bonus Time and a Game Plan card for 4 dice needing 3's, 'Shank's scores with 3 successes making it 6-0 Butcher's.  'Seenah' was then able to get within melee of 'V Boar' and managed to do 21 damage on 3 attacks to Take Out 'V Boar'.  6-2 Butchers.  'V Ox' was then able to Taken Out 'Chaska' for a 8-2 Butcher's lead, but the clock then expired on the Butcher's surrendering a VP, 8-3 Butchers.  'V Gutter' was able to charge into 'V Minx', 'Princess' was also able to engage 'V Minx' and then 'Boiler' was able to do an Axe Throw on 'Theron' for a Taken Out and then attack 'V Minx' and finish her off for a Butcher's WIN, with 1:00 minute left on my Bonus Time.

Final score, Butcher's 12, Hunter's 6.

If I did not score the Goal, I would have lost on the clock, but this was still practice with the first time playing the new Captain.  I still like having 'Ox's' aura as a Captain, but the damage from 'V Boar' is really nice.

It will be a tough decision which 2 Captains will make my roster.

Battle Report: Guild Ball 2/17/2019 Butcher's vs Hunter's

With Bourbon Trail Open IV fast approaching this weekend, and missing out on an event this past Saturday, my son and I were able to squeeze in a game last night.

I felt like playing a change today, so I went with 'Fillet' as my Captain to get a little bit more practice with her, but I was actually stunned when I saw my son throw down 'Skatha' instead of 'Theron'.  This was definitely going to be a little different now.

 Fillet
Princess
Boiler
V Ox
Brisket
Boar
 Skatha
Snow
V Minx
Seenah
Chaska
Ulfr

I do not recall all the exact details, but here quick breakdown: Hunter's went up early 4-0 with a Screamer Goal from 'Skatha'.  Butcher's came back with a Taken Outs to make the game 4-2.  When 'Skatha' came back onto the Pitch, she managed to retrieve the ball and go in for another score giving the Hunter's a 8-2 lead.  The Butcher's Goal Kick was placed perfectly for 'Brisket' to activate and go on a goal run herself.... Screaming Goal for 'Brisket', 8-6 Hunter's.  Butcher's then were able to get Taken Outs on 'Seenah' and 'Chaska' giving them the lead now 10-8.  Top of Turn 3 and the Butcher's won initiative and now need to decide on either finishing off 'Skatha' or going for 'Veteran Minx'.  The Butcher's decided to load up an engaged 'Fillet' and start stabbing 'Skatah' to death.  With a 5 DEF on 'Skatha' it did take quite a few stabbings to finally bring her down for a Butcher's win 12-8.  If 'Fillet' would have faltered, 'Ulfr' was within scoring range with the ball and easily would have won the game with another goal.

This game was a nice change of pace with both sides actually doing some scoring.  I can myself possibly trying this list again this weekend, we shall see.

Battle Report: Guild Ball 1/20/2019 Butcher's vs Blacksmith's

My son and I are swapping out Guild's playing each other and it has been a little while since my son last played his Blacksmith's Guild (with his switch to the Hunter's Guild), but this afternoon he decided to throw them down for a game against my Butcher's.

 Ox
Princess
Boiler
Boar
Shank
V Gutter
 Furnace
Anvil
Hearth
V Cinder
Alloy
Sledge

I elected to receive the ball (since I heard that is the best thing to do with the Butcher's) and proceeded with my usually opening move.  One change to this is that 'Boiler' was able to pick up the ball and did  successful Kick back to 'Ox' for some early Momentum.  Butcher's took an early lead Turn 1 2-0 with a Taken Out on 'Alloy', but the Blacksmith's came back and Taken Out 'Boar' at the beginning of Turn 2 to even up the game 2-2.  It was now time to kick it into high gear...Butcher's followed up with Taken Out's on 'Anvil', 'Sledge', 'V Cinder' and 'Furnace' giving the Butcher's a 10-2 lead.  The clock then expired for my Butcher's during Turn 3, but not before 'Boar' could come back onto the Pitch and finish off 'Alloy' for a 12-2 Butcher's win.

Battle Report: Guild Ball 1/18/2019 Navigator's vs Hunter's

I need more and more Guild Ball practice, I have slacked off so far starting off 2019 in playing and painting (way behind in the painting department) so last night my son and i got in another game.  Instead of always Butcher's vs Hunter's, we are alternating to give each other practice vs other Guilds, at the same time learning some of the things the other Guilds can do.  Since i just played the Navigator's the other  night, I decided to try them again vs the Hunter's.

Windfinder
Wander
Azimuth
Ebb
Fathom
Horizon
 Theron
Fahad
V Minx
Seenah
Chaska
Hearne

I elected to receive this time to try and build up some Momentum with passing and setting up my players where I'd like them to be (near terrain).  It all started off pretty good for my Navigator's and then it all when downhill when 'Fathom' missed her Goal (grant it, it was on one die).  From there the Hunter's were just beating up on the Navigator's and I believe was losing 7-0 (from Taken Outs) when my clock expired.  I knew I was going to lose on the clock since it is still a learning process with the Navigator's.  With the new OPD that was released this week, I was able to have an extra 5:00 minutes added to my clock, but my opponent would gain 1VP after every Activation I take.  4 Activation's later the score was now 11-0 and I had 39 seconds left on the clock.  It was time to get a moral victory.  'Fathom' went for another Goal run from just coming back onto the Pitch.  She spent 1 Momentum for a Heroic Play to Dodge 4", then Charged 'Chaska' and wrapped with a Momentous Double Dodge and Dodge and to put her within Kick range.  She was still engaged and lost a die, but I used Bonus Time to put it right back.  This time 'Fathom' was able to score and the Navigator's lost 12-4.

Battle Report: Guild Ball 1/14/2019 Navigator's vs Alchemist's

Here is a little change in pace from our normal Butcher's vs Hunter's games that my son and I usually play.  Last night my son thought I was going to be playing my Butcher's again and he decided to try out the full Alchemist's Guild in Season 4, but I decided to throw a curve ball and break out the Navigator's Guild that I just received earlier in the day.

Seeing how I really did not look closely into the Navigator's Guild, nor read through much of the Facebook Group, I decided just to play the 6 that comes inside the box set,

Windfinder
Wander
Azimuth
Ebb
Fathom
Horizon
Midas
Naja
Crucible
Katalyst
Venin
Vitriol

I elected to kick off with the Navigator's and chose 'Horizon' to do this for me, with his 5" Dodge, I thought he would be a good choice for a first turn goal.  Well, he failed at that, 'Horizon' was able to Tackle the ball back, but being engaged he was down a dice for Kick, meaning his base Kick of 2 just went down 1, I still need a 4 and it was re-rollable, but 'Horizon' missed the first shot.  Alchemist's received the ball from the scatter and did a Kick to 'Midas' who used the Momentum for a 4" Dodge.  Once 'Midas' activated he went for his Goal run and succeeded in scoring the first Goal of the game with a Screamer, Alchemist's 4, Navigator's 0.  The ball kicked out to 'Fathom' who had a full stack of Influence, luckily she had Full Speed Ahead granting her 0"/2" MOV and a free Sprint/Charge so she Charged 'Vitriol' so I could get the added 1/2" I needed for a Goal.  'Fathom' was able to wrap on her card I took the Momentous Dodge Dodge that I wanted and then she proceeded with Acrobatic to get even closer.  'Fathom' took the shot and matched 'Midas' with a  Screamer for herself, the score was now 4-4.  Alchemist's then did quite a bit of damage on 'Horizon' leaving him with 1 HP left, but he was also Burning and Poison, so he was going to be Taken Out in the End Phase and the Alchemist's were up 5-4 ('Horizon' only grants 1 VP for Taken Out).

Navigator's won initiative for Turn 2 and I elected to take it.  'Wander' my Mascot was near the open ball and flew 1/2" to pick up and Sprinted/Flew over to 'Horizon' who was able to re-enter the game on my opponent's side of the Pitch, I kept 'Horizon' at a safe distance, but yet close enough for a Goal run.  'Wander' successfully Passed 'Horizon' and I received my much needed Momentum.  Alchemist's were out of range to get to 'Horizon', so 'Crucible' elected to do some damage on 'Fathom'.  Now it was time for 'Horizons' redemption and this time he successfully scored his Goal and the Navigator's were up 8-5.  Alchemist's tried to Kick the ball out the 'Midas', but with where the ball scattered, 'Fathom' was able to intercept the ball.  'Venin' engaged 'Fathom' but was not able to do much to her and left the ball with 'Fathom'.  'Fathom' then decided to take her chance for the game winning Goal.  'Fathom' Acrobatic out of 'Midas' melee range, but she was still engaged by 'Venin' and 'Vitriol' so that meant 'Fathom' was down 2 dice on the Kick bringing her to 0 dice, but the rules state you always have 1 dice.  'Fathom' took her shot on 1 dice (grant it was re-rollable) but she didn't need it and scored with a 5 for the game winning Goal.  Navigator's 12, Alchemist's 5.

Battle Report: Guild Ball 1/6/2019 Butcher's vs Hunter's

This afternoon I was finally able to get in my first game of 2019, and it was Guild Ball, Butcher's vs Hunter's.

I felt like playing a change today, so I went with 'Fillet' as my Captain.

 Fillet
Princess
Boiler
V Ox
Meathook
Tenderizer
 Theron
Snow
V Minx
Seenah
Chaska
Hearne

My son has been trying his standard Hunter's lineup with a change in Mascots again and going with 'Snow' instead of 'Fahad' today.

My Butcher's kicked off to the Hunter's and Kicked the ball to my far right of the Pitch, who needs the ball anyways while playing Butcher's.  I had a pretty decent first Turn, no Taken Outs, but I did quite a bit of damage to set myself up for Turn 2.

Turn 2 is where the Butcher's did all the Taken Outs, but where I just about spent my entire clock too.  I managed to get 5 Taken Outs for 9 VP and just leaving 'Chaska' on the Pitch.  The Hunter's were able to get 2 Taken Outs themselves on 'Fillet' and 'Veteran Ox'.

Turn 3 I decided to give initiative to the Hunter's, I wanted to see where my opponent was going to be bringing in all of his players so I know where my 2 will be coming in from.  Hunters brought in 'Seenah' and 'Snow' to my left and 'Theron', 'V Minx' and 'Hearne' to my right.  I then brought in 'Fillet' and 'V Ox' on my right.  'Chaska' who was left on the Pitch went first and did his Boom Box on a healthy 'Boiler' so I was okay with that.  'V Ox' Charged in on 'V Minx' and did some damage, not a much a I had hoped for, but he was within melee range of 'Theron', so 'Theron' also took some damage.  'V Minx' passed the ball back to 'Thereon' and did not do much after that, my clock had expired by now and I was giving up 1 VP each activation.  'Filet' went next and as able to get a Taken Out on 'V Minx', she then Dodged towards 'Theron' and used her remaining Influence to finish off 'Theron' for a Butcher's win 12-6.
