Guild Ball: The Fallen 'Zombie Thresher'

Ghost's of Christmas Guild Ball Day 1

I know, technically I am a year late getting these models completed, but better late than never.  In October 2017, Steamforged Games released a special set called "The Dark Harvest" and that set came with a Grim Reaper, and five Harvest Markers for the Farmer's Guild, but the models may be alternately used as players in their respected Guilds, these players are 'Zombie Thresher', 'Greyscale's Grave', 'Ghast's Grave', Blackheart's Grave', 'Coin's Grave', and 'Snakeskin's Grave'.

Seeing how I am only a few Painting Points from surpassing last year's mark, I thought working on these would be perfect to finally get them completed, and to beat last year's Points.

Also you may have noticed in the title of this post, I used "The Fallen" instead of "The Dark Harvest", the reason for this is that SFG has released at least one more zombie model with 'Zombie Furnace' since "The Dark Harvest" was released, and I thought the category of "The Fallen" would fit better for when I collect any more of these models.

While painting these models, i wanted to go with a ghostly feel to them, yet pick out an item to represent their Guild color if possible.

The first one up will be the Grim Reaper himself, 'Zombie Thresher'.

Guild Ball: Mason's Guild 'Veteran Chisel'

It has been quite awhile since I last worked on a Mason's Guild model, but now the Guild is back to being fully completed.  'Veteran Chisel' comes from "The Faithful New Beginnings" box, which are players loyal to their teammates and Guild, respect and honour foremost in their minds as they begin the next chapter of their lives.

Guild Ball: Ratcatcher's Guild 'LE Cheese Ball'

This past weekend at the "Holiday Guild Ball" tournament in Grand Rapids, I failed to come home with the "Wooden Spoon" award, but I did manage to bring home a Limited Edition Ratcatcher's Cheese Ball.

Come 2019 I will be concentrating on finishing up my remaining Guild Ball models, plus all the new models coming out next year and I have a pretty healthy backlog of the current Minor Guilds waiting to be painted.  More thank likely I will be starting on the Ratcatcher's Minor Guild come January so I thought what a better way to kick them off than painting their 'LE Cheese Ball'.

Weekly Chronicle 2018 #49

The end of the year is approaching and I am looking forward to the new year and working on my list of expectations for 2019 (my annual New Year's Day post).  We still have a few more weeks left in 2018 and I am 7 Painting Points shy of beating last year's mark of 320 Points.  Looks like I better hurry up and get some models ready for the painting table.  It is not like I do not have any models in my Painting Queue Backlog, but some of the items I am saving for 2019 (mainly tackling the Minor Guilds for Guild Ball), but I thought of some models yesterday afternoon that should just put me past last year's mark.

Back onto my recap of week #49.

Painting: Last week only 1 model was completed with 'Veteran Hearne' for my son's Hunter's Guild Ball team, I am glad he got completed and that was the last model for the Guild.  Nothing else was completed, but a few models did get ready for this week.

Gaming:  Last week did not see many Battle Reports, on Monday night and yesterday my son and i got in a game of Star Wars Destiny (for which I do not write any Battle Reports), then this past Saturday I spent all day at the "Holiday Guild Ball" tournament in Grand Rapids in which I did manage to play 4 games of Guild Ball.

I am not really sure what is in store for this week gaming wise.  We picked up a few more booster packs of Star Wars Destiny yesterday, so we may play that either tonight or Thursday night, then the opposite night will be a game of Guild Ball (most likely) and hoping for another game of X-Wing or Arena Rex on Friday.  It has been a little while since our last game of Arena Rex, who know's, maybe we'll play that tonight.  On Sunday I will be heading down to Fantasy Games in South Bend to cover Guild Ball Open Play while my SFG Pundit counter-part will be playing in a Guild Ball tournament in Chicago.  In between all of this, I still have models to paint.  Here is to week #50.

Battle Report: Guild Ball Recap "Holiday Guild Ball" Tournament

Yesterday was my second ever Guild Ball Tournament that I have attended and Pundit Eric M was running the "Holiday Guild Ball" at The Gaming Warehouse up in Grand Rapids, MI.

Leading up to the event it had looked like it may be a small turn out with only 6 players preregistering, but we had 4 more players show up for a total of 10.

I am no Guild Ball expert, sure I like to win, but at a tournament I have no high expectations and was expecting to take home the "Wooden Spoon" award.

I wont be going into full details of each game (where I probably do not remember them all, but just some brief moments).

Round 1: Butcher's vs Engineer's (Adam G)

Ox vs Ballista

This game was like a chess match for the first 30 minutes of each of our clocks.  The Engineer's were trying to bait me in but I was standing my ground.  Finally the Engineer's scored a Goal and I rebounding with double Take Outs (4-4).  The Engineer's then picked up the space and managed to get in back to back Goals for a 12-4 win.

Round 2: Butcher's vs Alchemist's (Ty V)

Fillet vs Smoke

For this game 'Fillet' was making her tournament debut for me, I had read an article when she can still be pretty good vs scoring teams.  This game did not go over to well for me as the Alchemist's were just piling on all the conditions on my players.  I did manage to get 3 Take Outs, but the Alchemist's won 12-6.

Round 3: Butcher's vs Fisherman (Josh)

Fillet vs Corsair

I had really thought that this game was going to be a rematch of a friendly game I played with Josh last weekend, but Josh threw me a curve ball and placed down 'Corsair', he was not able with 'Shark' for his first 2 games.  Really close in the beginning with the score being 8-7 Fisherman, but then 'Corsair' manged to score another goal while being engaged and with an intervening model for a 12-7 win.

At this point I was 0-3 for the day and had a shot for the "Wooden Spoon".

Round 4: Butcher's vs Blacksmith's (Lenore)

Ox vs Anvil

Lenore is still pretty new to the game of Guild Ball, and I had some experience running my Butcher's against the Blacksmith's when my son was trying them out, so I had a feeling that i would not be bringing home the "Wooden Spoon".

I did not rush my Turn 1 and run all my player's into her, I started to set things up for Turn 2.  I concentrated most of damage on 'Hearth' jailing her with 1 HP left after the Bleed condition and doing some damage on 'Alloy'  'Princess' then tied up 'Veteran Cinder' so 'Boiler' can come on it next turn.

Turn 2 'Boiler' and 'Princess' easily took care of 'Veteran Cinder', 'Shank' finished off 'Alloy' and Tackled the ball and started a Jog towards the Goal, and 'Boar' finished off 'Hearth' and added some damage to 'Sledge' before 'Sledge' retaliated and Taken Out 'Boar'.  At the end of Turn 2 I was up 6-2.

I won initiative for Turn 3 and saw that I had a Goal run with 'Shank' and decided to go for it.  My Game Plan card gave 'Shank' a 2" Dodge when he activated and I was able to disengage 'Alloy' who just returned onto the Pitch, I then paid for a 4" Dodge and stayed just outside of 1" from 'Hearth' and proceeded with an attack to gain some Momentum, 2 damage and a Dodge was good enough to disengage 'Hearth'.  A Sprint toward the Goal leaving within Tap-In range (needing 3's) and 'Shank' barely scored with a roll of a 1,3 but it was good enough for the Goal.  My Butcher's were now up 10-2 and I had two possibilities for another Take Out.  I had 'Boar' who was within Charge range of 'Alloy' and 'Boiler/Ox' were engaged with 'Sledge'.  'Sledge' only had 8 HP left and with Ox's The Owner, I thought 'Boiler' had a better chance or the win, sure enough, it took 3 attacks but 'Boiler' got the job done and Butcher's win 12-2.

I ended up finishing 1-3 for the day, and Lenore took the "Wooden Spoon" from me.

Earlier in the week I was working on some award certificates for an event we are planning on for February an I had asked Eric if he wanted me to make some for this event, so we had award certificates for 1st, 2nd, 3rd and the Wooden Spoon.

Guild Ball: Hunter's Guild 'Veteran Hearne'

The Hunter's Guild for Guild Ball I can finally say are completed (at least until they expand).  'Veteran Hearne' was the last of the models to be completed and I was able to start on him Monday night and finished him up last night.  With the Steamforged Black Friday Sale, I do have a 'Young Theron' and a 'Rookie Seenah' coming, but those are played as replacements to their original counterparts.

Weekly Chronicle 2018 #48

I would have to say that last week was a pretty good week for me modeling and gaming.  My Mortician's Guild were able to get completed with the last three models being 'Veteran Graves', 'Brainpan' & 'Memory'.

Gaming wise, my son and I got in a few games of Star Wars: Destiny in, and I was able to get in games of Guild Ball on Thursday, Saturday and Sunday.  Friday night my son and I also squeezed in a game of X-Wing (which was a nice change of pace).

The problem with playing more games is that I then fall behind on prepping models in my Painting Queue/Backlog and I only have one model currently ready to hit my painting table.  I am hoping that I can probably start on it tomorrow night and "maybe" get it done this week, but we will have to see.  I have a Guild Ball tournament coming up on Saturday, and Sunday is Guild Ball open play down in South Bend (and I usually can get a lot painted on the weekends.)  I may have to skip open play this coming Sunday so I can catch up on building some models and getting them prepped, which may not be a bad idea since I will be coming home later on Saturday from the tournament.

Battle Report: Guild Ball 12/1/2018 Butcher's vs Fisherman's

Yesterday late morning/early afternoon I took a drive up to Grand Rapids to The Gaming Warehouse and met my friend Josh for a game of Guild Ball.  I am trying to get in as much practice as possible and get ready for next weekends tournament up there.

I knew my friend lately has been playing the Fisherman's Guild led by 'Shark', so I thought it would be a good time to try out my 'Filet' list again.

 Fillet
Princess
Boiler
Meathook
V Ox
Tenderizer
Shark
Salt
Angel
Greyscales
Sakana
Fathom

The Fisherman kicked off to my Butcher's and I grabbed the ball with 'Meathook' and Passed it back to 'Filet' along with Tooled Up.  Now 'Shark' was thinking about his Turn 1 Goal.  'Shark' did manage to get into 'Filet' but he took a pretty deep cut from 'Meathook' which caused him to Bleed.  'Shark' got the ball away from 'Filet' and took the shot and scored (4-0 Fisherman), and then proceeded to Dodge behind the goal line.  Butcher's obviously did some pay back and took out 'Shark'.  At the end of Turn 1 it was 4-2 Fisherman.

End of Turn 1.

Turn 2 back and forth.  'Fathom' managed to get a Goal (with a re-roll) (8-2 Fisherman), but my Butcher's started to make a come back.  a Taken Out on 'Salt', 'Sakana' and 'Shark' brought the game up to 8-7 Fisherman at the end of Turn 2.

Turn 3, I was able to Take Out 'Fathom' (8-9 Butcher's) and my Butcher's finally took the lead.  Old man 'Greyscales' now decided to take a shot on Goal.  If he missed, and I had a pretty good setup for 2 more take outs, but unfortunately 'Greyscales' got the game winning Goal for the Win. 12-9 Fisherman.

'Greyscales' for the winning Goal.

I really enjoyed this game a lot, there was quite a bit of going back and forth and kept the game really fun.  There may be a possible rematch next weekend.

Battle Report: X-Wing 11/30/2018 (Scum vs Rebels)

It has been a few weeks since my last game of X-Wing and last night my son and I played so we can keep the rules fresh in our minds.  I am signed up for the X-Wing System Open Qualifier at AdeptiCon 2019, not that I am gong to win, but I do want to make sure I know what I am doing.  For last nights game, I went back to playing Scum & Villiany and my son with his Rebels.

*upgrades not listed
Rebel (200)
Wedge Antilles
Luke Skywalker
B-Wing Variant?

Scum & Villiany (200)
Boba Fett
Talonbane Cobra
Graz

I flew Cobra and Graz in a perfect position to get a Range 1 shot on Luke early in the game and they both whiffed allowing Luke to continue flying, he should have been destroyed early on.  Wedge and the B-Wing then made work on Graz, he survived the first round of shooting, but then the next round he was destroyed.  My remaining 2 ships then start to finally hit their targets....B-Wing ad Wedge were destroyed and now it was time for Luke to use the Force and pull off the win....was not going to happen.  Boba Fett made a hell of a rear shot on Luke to win the game.

Battle Report: Guild Ball 11/29/2018 Butcher's vs Hunter's

Last night it was another night for my Butcher's, and the first time playing 'Fillet' in a long time (only tried her once in Season 4).  There was a great article written this past week on another blog about playing 'Fillet' and I thought I would giver her another shot.  My son and his Hunter's elected to try 'Skatha' one more time.  Just like me and 'Ox', my son's preferred Caption in 'Theron'.

 Fillet
Princess
Boiler
Meathook
V Ox
Tenderizer
 Skatha
Snow
V Minx
Seenah
Ulfr
Zarola

The Hunter's kicked off to my Butcher's to my left side, 'Meathook' activated and went to retrieve the ball and elected to Pass it back to 'Fillet' but missed the Tap In Pass (with 3 dice) so the ball scattered to my right near 'Veteran Ox', the location was actually pretty good.  'Meathook' had also applied Tooled Up on 'Fillet' to help with her damage output.  The next move was a little unexpected, 'Skatha' decided to go for the ball and try a first turn Goal, the only problem was that 'Skatha' was inexperienced versus a Goalkeeper and 'Tenderizer' used his Rush Keeper and charged into 'Skatha' knocking her down.  After that attempt 'Princess' and 'Boiler' were able to Take Out 'Skatha'.  'Fillet' then was able to quite a bit of damage on 'Veteran Minx' but not enough to take her out, but the Bleed condition finished her.  'Seenah' came in on the end of turn to try and damage 'Fillet', but little was done and she healed herself from all the Bleed conditions around her.

Turn 2 'Fillet' worked on 'Seenah' and was able to take her out, 'Veteran Minx' was also gone again, 'Snow' was also gone, and 'Princess'/'Boiler' made work of 'Ulfr'.  It was now 11-0 Butcher's with 'Fillet' and 'Veteran Ox' standing near a damaged 'Skatha'.

Turn 3 Butcher's went first again.  'Fillet' was currently knocked down so we decided to activate 'Veteran Ox' first, I knew all I needed to do was 4 damage on 'Skatha' and the game would be over.  3 attacks and got exactly 4 damage (plus his 3 from Lash Out) and 'Skatha' was Taken Out and Butcher's win 12(13)-0

Trying to figure out how to get around 'Tenderizer' dampened the Hunter's.  My thoughts on 'Fillet' are still iffy.  There were times it felt she was not producing enough damage, especially without Bleed or Tooled Up, but I am still learning her.  If I remember to do the Character Play that causes Bleed on her first attack, I may be alright with her.

Veteran Ox finishes off Skatha.
