Weekly Chronicle 2021 #8

In all honesty, it does not look like anything will be completed for the month of April.  I am slowing working on a 'Repulsor Executioner' for Warhammer 40,000 Imperial Fists army, I finished the assembly, primed the model, and started working on some base coats, but I do not think it will be completed by this weekend which would mark end of February, March will see the completion of this model for sure.

On Saturday we got in another game of Warhammer Age of Sigmar, 1000 points once again and I decided to fly/try a "Barak-Ziflyn" list this time (so both of my Guhaulers can carry a 5 dwarf Rifle Unit).  This was another uphill battle for my Kharadron Overlords going down early in Victory Points but managed to claw my way back for a 20-16 victory.  I have enough models assembled to try a 1500 point game, but my son is still lacking in assembled models for his Stormcast Eternals, and then we both still have quite a bit to assemble to get us to 2000 points.

Sunday was a nice relaxing day for me where I started on some of my base colors for the "Repulsor Executioner" and then in the early afternoon my son and I decided to go through our 1000 point Warhammer 40,000 lists for the upcoming Motor City Mayhem Team Tournament in April, the Team Packet was finally released in the morning so we could look over the army building rules.  I think we both decided on 1000 points that we like each, and can take advantage of each others strengths, I am just hoping that one of our ideas that we want to run (his Unit in my Transport) will be allowed, I do not see anything in any rule that would not allow this.

So what is in the works for this week? it is all up in the air....any free time I will try and continue painting (or assembling KO) and I am not sure what we will be playing this weekend to wrap up the month of February.

Weekly Chronicle 2021 #7 (Warhammer 40,000 Battle Report)

I am still in a painting lull this month, but I have been slowly assembling some models when the time allows.  Currently I am working on building a 'Repulsor Executioner' for my Imperial Fists army, I hope to have it completed in the next few days and it hit may be hit with primer shortly there after.  It would be nice to get that model finished this month, considering it has been sitting in a box for over a year.  We shall see if it gets done, if I miss the mark for February, then it will be done at least in early March.

For gaming this past week, we only got in one game of Warhammer 40,000 on Saturday, my son was playing his Dark Angels, and I was playing (nope not Imperial Fists) but instead Dark Angels also, but a Deathwing Detachement.  My son picked up a Deathwing army from a friend in Arizona a few years ago and it was time to take it out of the bag, especially with the new Codex just released.

We played a 1000 point Incursion game and the mission was "Show Of Force".

Instead of coming in via Teleport, I elected to deploy all my 'Terminators', hence the majority of them hding behind Obscuring Ruins.

This was a very close game and an uphill battle for my Dark Angels, with the recent scoring update in the latest FAQ (player who goes second scores Objectives at the end of their Turn instead of the Command Phase) really saved/won the game for me.  I was able to Fallback a 'Dreadnought' in Turn 5 and get within 3" of an Objective and score it which then gave my Dark Angels control of more Objectives than my son and get the win, plus these Dark Angels were also fully painted which scored 10 points, without that, the game was a Draw.

It was fun playing a different army, but I sure missed my Imperial Fists in some of the situations.

For this coming weekend, still undecided on what we be playing, we were suppose to play MeSBG instead of W40K this past weekend and it has been a bit since we last played Warhammer Age of Sigmar.  More than likely we will play AoS on Saturday, and Sunday "may" be left for hobbying again (especially if I get my 'Repulsor Executioner' primed by then).

Weekly Chronicle 2021 #6 (Warhammer 40,000 Battle Report)

Well February is not turning out as well as January was in regards to getting models painted (I actually impressed myself in January) but I did spend some time during the week assembling more models for my Warhammer Age of Sigmar, Kharadron Overlords.

Without any events that are officially happening (besides the one that I wrote about last week), I really do not have much motivation at the time to complete anything, so right now I am painting what I feel like painting.  I know once registration opens for NOVA Open and we decide on the events we want to play in, I am sure I will have to get going to complete what I need to.

Gaming for the week was only one game of Warhammer 40,000 on Sunday.  With the new release of the Dark Angels Codex on Saturday, my son and I spent a good part of the day heading down to South Bend to our LGS so he could pick up his items, so we did not play anything on Saturday, but prepped the table for a 2000 point game on Sunday.

My son was playing the "new" Dark Angels and I was playing my Imperial Fists in the Strike Force mission called "Overrun"

I was the "Attacker" and my son was the "Defender" so he got to select his Deployment Zone and start deploying a Unit.  Once all Units were deployed we rolled for who would go first, and it was a first in a very long time that my son won the roll off to go first.

Once we started Round 1,  realized I probably did not deploy in the best way and I was probably to stretched out for my liking.  During the first Turn, I was only really scared of one Unit from the Dark Angels, my son was finally playing his new 'Hellblaster' Squad and they sure took advantage of first turn wiping out my Unit of three 'Centurions', the backbone of my army was gone right away and I knew it was going to be an uphill battle.

I still had a Unit of Four 'Eradicators' and I made sure to take revenge on the 'Hellblasters'.  I concentrated most of my fire power that was within reach of them and was able to eliminate that threat.  I also was able to eliminate a Unit that was holding an Objective which would then cost the Dark Angels 5 points in their net Command Phase.

The first few Rounds were pretty tight, but the shooting of the Imperial Fists slowly were dwindling down the Dark Angels and scoring Objectives for me.  By the end of Round 5, there were not many Dark Angel models left on the table (2) and my Imperial Fists got the victory 83-23.

At this moment I am really not sure what is in store for the upcoming week, I really do need to start prepping some MeSBG models, but MeSBG is up n the schedule for this weekend and I really do not like to play with models that I started prepping.  Maybe I will start getting their bases ready and do some priming right after our game.

Models Completed: 0
Games Played: 1

Daily Chronicle: Motor City Mayhem April 23rd-25th 2021

As of this writing there is actually a scheduled event for Warhammer 40,000 that is not too far for us to attend.
It was announced last week that "Motor City Mayhem 2021" a Warhammer 40,000 Singles/Doubles tournament will be taking place in Southfield, MI at the Best Western Premier Hotel and Convention Center on April 23rd-25th, 2021.

Friday April 23rd is the 2v2 Team Tournament "Team up with a friend in our casual,  3 round 2v2 team tournament! Up to 64 team slots available."

Saturday and Sunday, April 24th-25th "Compete against a field of up to 128 players in our 5 round premier competitive event!"

Unfortunately I already have plans with my wife on that Saturday afternoon (nieces wedding) so the 2 day Singles Tournament is out of the question, but attending the Doubles Tournament on Friday would be a possibility.  Southfield, MI is only a 2.5 hour drive, so it is not that far, we can drive there real early Friday morning, play in the Doubles Tournament and then spend the night there to relax and drive back home on Saturday morning.

The next step was to see if my son was interested, this was a no brainer, right away he had said.

The next hurdle was just to verify the time of my nieces wedding, we confirmed with my wife that it was in the afternoon (actually pretty late, 4:30 PM) so we were then all set.

I registered for the event on their website and booked our room right after.  The event is offering a full refund policy (if you cancel on your own by April 7th) or if the event is cancelled due to government restrictions.  So as we get closer, we should know what the status is.

The event packets are not yet released, but we are assuming that it will be 2000 points per Team (1000 points per player), so that is why in yesterdays Weekly Chronicle I am starting to test out some 1000 point lists for my half of the Team.  The good news is that I am fully painted for basically every 1000 point combination that I would like to play, there may be a small chance that something will have to be painted, but unlikely.  My son on the other hand will be busy for the next three months.

Hopefully this event will be happening, it will be nice to finally get away for an event.

Weekly Chronicle 2021 #5 (Warhammer Age of Sigmar / Warhammer 40,000 Battle Report)

It is already February 1st, and all I can say is WOW! what a January I had for painting.  I completed 66 Painting Points (grant it most of the points were in Vehicles) but models I had on my backlog were getting completed.

Last week saw me completed three 'Primaris Invader ATVs' for my Imperial Fists army which all I can say is that I am thrilled I finally got to them.  As of now there is not much more left on backlog for the Imperial Fists, yes I still have models I want to complete for them, but currently there is no "need" to get any of them done.

Gaming over the weekend was an "Open" weekend on our Schedule (meaning is was the 5th weekend of the month), usually this is left for games that do not see the table for most of the year, or for games that we are in the mood to play.  It turns out that our momentum currently lies with Warhammer Age of Sigmar and Warhammer 40,000 so we played a 1000 point game of each, AoS on Saturday and W40K on Sunday.

Warhammer AoS was a re-match of last weekends loss to the Stormcast Eternals with a slight change in my list for my Kharadron Overlords (increasing the size of one Unit while decreasing another).  The Battleplan that was next in line for us from the General's Handbook 2020 (skipping over the one that is played left to right) was "Starstrike".

My son did not lie this Battleplan at all, not knowing where the Objective markers will be, so it made for a very interesting First Round.

I finished deploying first, so that meant I got to choose who will go first/second for the First Round, I elected to go second to see what the Stormcast Eternals were going to do (especially with no Objectives).  They Ran some Units up to prepare for Round 2 and had no shooting that was in range.

I decided to change up my game plan after being decimated last week and I wanted to concentrate on eliminating one Unit t a time.  I basically flew my entire army to my left flank (and hope an Objective would come up there) and took care of the Stormcast that were on that flank.

Round 2 saw the first Objective get deployed and I was in luck as it came up on the flank I was on.  I stuck to my plan and slowly was picking off Units 1 by 1 and scoring Objective points.  By the end of Round 5 there were not many Stormcast Eternals left on the table and my Kharadron Overlords finally got a win 26-12.

Sunday was a 1000 point game of Warhammer 40,000.  Originally we were not going to play W40K this weekend (with my sons new Dark Angels Codex coming out next weekend) but I wanted to start testing some lists that I had made up for 1000 points (more on that tomorrow).  I told my son he should play his Salamanders since it has been awhile since they last saw the table, and now with 'Tactical Marines' being 2 Wounds each, they are not that bad.

We try to always play Missions from the "Grand Tournament 2020" book, so I rolled up the Mission "Forward Rush".  Playing left to right at 1000 points is not as big as of deal as for larger games, since the smaller mat fits nicely on my second 48"x48" table that sits in the middle of the room, so the mat can fit in any direction.

I did not have many Units in my list as you can see in the photo (there is one 5 man Squad of Intercessors in the top left building) but I sure did have some firepower.

I ended up winning the roll for First Turn, which I usually am happy to have and started shooting away and whittling down the Salamanders.  I played the game very smart, scoring my Objectives and eliminating chances for the Salamanders to score.  I lost my Unit of 'Intercessors' and one 'Centurion' model, while the Salamanders were wiped clean off the board earning a 73-26 victory for my Imperial Fists.  Both armies were fully painted which scored us 10 points each.

So what is in store for Week #5 and the start of February, unfortunately not very much.  I did not spend any time over the weekend prepping any models for painting, but instead kept on building models for my Kharadron Overlords.  I now have all the models I need for my first 2000 point list and still need to assemble 6 'Endrinriggers' and one 'Arknaut Ironclad' and they will then all be assembled.

Gaming this weekend is scheduled for Warhammer 40,000 on Saturday and Blood Bowl on Sunday, with the release of the Dark Angels Codex on Saturday, we are reversing the days, Blood Bowl actually has been a "miss" this year, but it may be played Saturday before heading down to our LGS to pick up the new Codex.

Come back tomorrow for some information on an upcoming event.
