Week #21 not as bad as previous weeks but could have been a bit better. With the announcement of 9th Edition of Warhammer 40,000 this past Saturday, that brought back some needed excitement to help kick start me back in the hobby (slowly, but I did get a jump). Right after the Preview we did jump in and play a 2000 point game. Nothing else was played this long weekend (mainly just a veg out weekend) but I also did get a model primed and ready for the painting table. Not sure when he will be done as it will be another busy work week, but hopefully sometime soon.
Yesterday morning Games Workshop held their "The BIG Warhammer 40,000 Preview Online" on Twitch.tv and the very first preview they showed was this video teaser along with their new logo on the left.
It was followed up by the official announcement of Warhammer 40,000 9th Edition, and I am really excited about this. Although I got back in Warhammer 40,000 late in 8th Edition, the announcement of 9th seemed to have awoken me inside and get me excited for the game again, something that during this pandemic lock down and all the conventions being cancelled has dampened my mood for gaming.
Games Workshop claims that all current Codex's will still be valid and playable and this is just a cleanup of the rules with some changes. No official date was announced when this be released but you can visit the new Warhammer 40,000 website and sign up for details. From a former Games Workshop Manager (and now a store owner) his prediction is that it will be available for pre-order at the end of this month with a release of mid June in time for Games Workshops fiscal year.
For a look at all the previews that were announced yesterday for Warhammer 40,000 you can see it all on the Warhammer Community page HERE.
Once we were done watching the Preview it was time to get our armies prepared for battle as my son and I played an ITC 2000 point game of Imperial Fists vs Dark Angels. My list was not as tough as it could of been, but my bread and butter Unit of 'Centurions' were in there and they wrecked havoc.
Through the first 3 Rounds of the game, the Dark Angels actually had a lead over my Imperial Fists, but by Round 4 I had thinned them down quite a bit and the tides were now shifting towards my Imperial Fists. The game went till end of Round 6 and my Imperial Fists did manage to get the win.
I still have quite a few more models that need painting and assembling for the Imperial Fists to keep me busy for quite a while, now it will be to find some time to actually start painting again. I think once the new rulebook gets released, or we have confirmation that NOVA Open or Renegade Open will still be on later this year, I will then get back into the painting mode.
Well a day after I purchased two Sunday badges for GenCon 2020, the even was cancelled yesterday afternoon. Click HERE for the official response from GenCon.
They are offering a refund to badges already purchased minus a $10 service fee. Well in my case, each badge was $15 for a total of $30 plus $10 shipping and tax for a grand total of $43. If I take the refund, then basically I am only getting back $10. The other option is just to have the badge rollover to 2021, originally I did not want to do this because I was not sure if I could attend, but after checking the dates for 2021, it looks like I will be back in time to attend. I think I will end up taking the rollover option and we'll see how it goes for next year.
It was another pretty quiet week for me gaming/modeling wise, so nothing was really done. This weekend will pick up a little bit, I am going to be taking Friday off from work so that way I can have an extended Holiday weekend, I am sure two of those days we'll get some games in. It has been awhile since our last game of Warhammer 40,000, so I think a 2000 point game will be a must on Saturday, then we'll see what our second game is.
Currently for modeling I do not have the painting mojo yet (usually this kicks in when I have an event to get ready for) and I already have a lot of painted options for 2000 points of Imperial Fists. Maybe I will use Friday to start prepping some Fists so that they will be ready for the painting table.
NOVA Open 2020 as on now is till scheduled for September 2nd-6th, but in this past weekends Newsletter that stated that by June 15th they will officially announce a "go/no go", so next month we should have more information, Northern Virginia currently has not released any "reopening" plans for large gatherings and that is what they are waiting for.
Originally this year with AdeptiCon and NOVA Open, we had no plans for GenCon 2020 (since we attended Sunday last year for the Vendor Hall), but with the State of Indiana allowing large gatherings after July 4th, GenCon 2020 is still scheduled to go on. Since I do not know the outcome of NOVA Open yet, I went ahead and purchased two Sunday badges again for this year. It is not to game in any events, but mainly to check out the Vendor Hall once again. It is expensive price just to go shopping, but it may be nice to check out any new releases.
Absolutely nothing to report for Week #19, it has been a pretty slow second quarter for me. Work is currently really busy right now and when the week is over I just want to veg over the weekend and do nothing. Then there is the uncertainty still with COVID-19 and the events in the future. Usually I am looking forward to a future event and that gets me motivated to paint and play, right now we do not know what is going to happen.
I have a another busy work week coming up plus having to work this weekend, so I have feeling next weeks report will be the same.
Week #18 was another really slow week and I have a feeling in will be like tat for awhile. Real work has actually been really busy and not that weather is getting nicer some of the weekends will be needed for outdoor work. Nothing was painted, but we did get in a game of X-Wing on Sunday and I finally got my first win of the year.....barely, with time running out Han flew his Falcon off the board giving me the win for the Galactic Empire.
