Weekly Chronicle 2019 #15

With how busy my "real work" was last week, it was actually a pretty decent week for me on the hobby front.

I did not play any games during the week (just wanted to relax after longer days at work), but I did manage to paint all 5 models for my Central City Villains and then I was able to play 3 games over the weekend.

This past Saturday were games of Guild Ball and Aristeia! and then yesterday my son and I got in a game of Batman with a full 350 points (report coming later today).

So I would say the week was really good.

Unfortunately some bad news is that I am STILL waiting for my Cook's minor Guild to arrive for Guild Ball, this is ridiculous how long they are sitting at Customs, I should have picked them up at AdeptiCon and then cancelled my web pre-order, but I did not want to do that to Discount Games.  I was hoping to have 'Cinnamon' to use for Spring Fling in a few weeks, but that those not look like it is going to happen. 

It looks like this week/weekend I may be painting up some more Batman Miniature Game models.

Battle Report: Aristeia! 4/13/2019 (Assault)

After our game of Guild Ball yesterday we had still had some time in the afternoon so we got the Aristeia! board ready for a game, this was only going to be our second time playing through a full game.

For this game, the Scenario was 'Assault' again (while we are still earning) and my son was the Green Team this time (a change from our first game) which consisted of 'hEXx3r', 'Maximus', 'Major Lunah', and 'Parvati'.  I was the Orange Team which had 'Wild Bill', 'Gata', '8-Ball', and 'Miyamoto Mushashi'.

We are still a little slow with our game play, but we really did speed things up since the last game.  We were able to finish all 5 Rounds in just under 2 hours.  This was the first time with 4 new models each so it does take a little time learning what the can do.  I am hoping we can eventually get this game down to an hour game play.

Well after 5 Rounds yesterday it was a close game and my Orange team lost the match to the Green team 7-6 (I missed out the win by only 1 space).

I am really looking forward to trying out some of the different scenarios.

Weekly Chronicle 2019 #14

It has been a busy work day today and I am now just getting around to my Weekly Chronicle.  It is hard to believe that Q1 is already over for 2019 and my Painting Queue for the year is not as good as I had hoped for, but I am alright with that, I am getting models completed that I really need/want done.

Games played this week was about average for me with 3.  We started a game of Aristeia! last Monday night and then played a full game this past Saturday, and yesterday got in a game of Batman Miniature Game (BMG).

Modeling wise was pretty good too.  No actual player models were completed, but I did get more terrain completed for BMG so I am happy with that.  I still have one more building left to complete for BMG and all of that terrain will be completed.

I do have new models arriving any day.  My Cook's Guild for Guild Ball SHOULD be arriving any day, and I have some new models for BMG coming in, more than likely I will work on some of the BMG models while I am waiting for the Cooks.

Not sure what games we'll line up this week to play, work will be hectic the next few days so it may not be till Thursday/Friday before I can get a game in.

Battle Report: Aristeia! 4/6/2019 (Assault)

Yesterday afternoon my son and got to complete our first full game of Aristeia! and it was interesting, a good interesting.  Even though the game is played with only 4 models, there is still a lot of information on those 4 player cards that we are still learning and processing which made the game last longer, along with still learning the actual rules of the game and trying to figure out how "Cover" works (which I believe we finally figured out).

Just like our previous 1 Round game a few days ago, the Scenario was 'Assault' and I was the Green Team which consisted of 'hEXx3r', 'Maximus', 'Major Lunah', and 'Parvati'.  My son was the Orange Team which had 'Wild Bill', 'Gata', '8-Ball', and 'Miyamoto Mushashi'.  The next time we get a full game in, we will swap the Teams around and each play with a new 4 before we start to open up any of the expansion boxes.

Round 1: I scored 3 VP (3-0)
Round 2: my son scored 3 VP (3-3)
Round 3: went back to me with a 3 VP (6-3)
Round 4: we each scored 1 VP (7-4)
Round 5: we each scored 1 VP (8-5)

Battle Report: Aristeia! 4/2/2019 (Assault)

Last night my son and I opened up our new Aristeia! Core Set and started to go through the guide "How To Play Aristeia!".

For this first game, the Scenario was 'Assault' and I was the Green Team which consisted of 'hEXx3r', 'Maximus', 'Major Lunah', and 'Parvati'.  My son was the Orange Team which had 'Wild Bill', 'Gata', '8-Ball', and 'Miyamoto Mushashi'.

Unfortunately due to time restraints we were only able to play 1 Round, but in that Round, we both had 2 models in the Scoring Zone for 1VP each, so this game was a Draw.  Obviously since it was our first time playing and seeing what the player cards can do, it took us quite a bit of time.  We still have much more to learn in subsequent Rounds, so the plan is dedicated a bit more time for the next game and finish the game through (hopefully Friday night).

Aristeia!: Entering Into A New Game

One of the games I was interested in looking at before heading to AdeptiCon was a game called Arestia! by Corvus Belli.  Corvus Belli is well known for their game "Infinity" (which I hear is a very complex game) but I was looking for a game that my son and I can play quickly in an evening.  Each player controls 4 models on a HexaDome board and the game can be played in under a hour.

If you have been following my blog for awhile, I am a collector first, then I try to be a painter, and then I play the games.  Something about the characters looking 'comic book like' drew me into them and since Aristeia! is still a fairly new game, there are less than 30 models out for the game so it would not be to hard nor to expensive to collect them all, so that is what I did.

I purchased the Core Box which is for 2 Players and contains 8 models, and then all of the available expansions.  Corvus Belli was also selling the upcoming expansion "Chemical Brothers" so that was also added.

Weekly Chronicle 2019 #13 (AdeptiCon 2019 Recap)

Well, last week was a pretty good week for me especially with AdeptiCon 2019 and I was able to get another model completed ('Steeljaw') before we left for the event.

Games played last week was really good too (obviously with a convention), I managed to play 8 games last week, which is not really that much, but I did not want to stress myself over the weekend.

Here is just a quick recap of AdeptiCon 2019 for my son and I, you can go back for a little bit more detail here: Day 1, Day 2, Day 3, Day 4

Wednesday: This was mainly just a travel day for us with badge check-in later in the evening.
Thursday: Vendor Hall shopping followed by 2 games of Guild Ball in the Early Bird Open.
Friday: This became an off day for me with a demo game of Aristeia! and a friendly game of Guild Ball vs Alex Botts.  I was originally signed up for X-Wing and I would have played in X-Wing if my son was also signed up, but this was his day to play Batman Miniatures Game.
Saturday: This was 4 games of Guild Ball in the AdeptiCon Championships, followed by a birthday dinner at Tilted Kilt, and then watching the final round of the Guild Ball Championship.
Sunday: Sunday was suppose to be a big game of Chicago Bootleggers, but we decided to hit the road early and come back home at a decent time and spend the evening with the family.

I could have gotten in a few more friendly games over the weekend, but sometime it is just nice to sit down, drink, and chit chat with friends.

Now that I am home....I am honestly not sure how the rest of the year is going to play out...I have too many new games added and too many old games...

Daily Chronicle: AdeptiCon 2019 Day 3 3/29/2019

Friday was Day 3 for AdeptiCon and it did not go as scheduled for myself.  My son went downstairs early for his Batman Miniatures Game tournament and I was heading down an later and I was entered in the X-Wing System Open Qualifier.  At the last minute I decided to bail out on the event and continue to check out the vendor hall.

I wanted to get in a demo game of Arestia! from Corvus Belli, so one of the founders of Corvus Belli, Carlos game taught me how to play the game.  This was the game I was eyeing before coming to AdeptiCon as a quick play game to have done within an hour.  I enjoyed the game a lot, so stay tuned next week for some posts about it.

When I was done with the vendor hall for the morning, I decided to head upstairs for lunch and a quick break before heading back down with my Guild Ball stuff.  If someone was going to ask to play, I might as well get a game in.

While watching my friend Josh play a friendly with his Fisherman's Guild, Alex Botts (World's #1 Player) asked me if I wanted to get a game in...hell yea!  Since I know Alex like to play Butcher's and that is the Guild I was playing, I asked if he wanted to play the mirror match-up, he decided to bring out the new Cook's Minor Guild for our game.  Alex totally controlled the flow of the game, yes I managed a Take Out, yes I managed a Goal, but he just dominated the pitch for a 12-6 win with his Cook's, it was fun game though and Alex is a friendly player to play against.

After that game was over, it was time for re-fill of my cup with some Jim Beam. well that was a mistake, when that drink was done, I found myself back in the vendor hall making another new game purchase with Judgement.  It seems my friends from Grand Rapids are all getting into this game so I decided to get 3 models for myself and 3 models for my son and we can start some 3v3 battles.  Hopefully we'll be able to get up there for a few games.

Once my son was done with his BMG tournament which he finished 1-3 it was time to get some dinner at one of my favorite Italian Beef places, Buona (better than Portillo's).  When he got back we headed to the 2nd floor and hang out with some friends watching some Judgement games.

Tomorrow is the big day with the AdeptiCon Guild Ball Championships.
