WM: Khador Kayazy Eliminators 2 (Unit)

With these two fine ladies my AdeptiCon Warmachine/Hordes ‘Who’s The Boss’ list is now complete.  Just like with yesterday’s Unit, these ladies were meant to just be painted quickly.  We are also on the last day of February so tomorrow starts off a new month and month to have some fun with some models.  All my models are ready for AdeptiCon so I can take a little time on work on some Trollbloods and maybe through in a Guild Ball Blacksmith model every now and then.

WM: Khador Kayazy Eliminators 1 (Unit)

“Git-R-Done” was about all I was thinking when I started working on my 2 Units of ‘Kayazy Eliminators’ this past Sunday.  For one I did not even realize I owned these Units until I decided to dig through my gaming bag, and two, AdeptiCon is not that far away and I wanted them done for the ‘Who’s The Boss’ Tournament.  I am OK with them, I am not one who goes out and wins or wants to win painting awards, I just prefer to play with painted models (anything is better than bare metal, plastic or just plain primer).

Weekly Chronicle 2018 #8

With only 3 days left till the end of February, we are coming to 2 completed month’s in 2018 and the end of Week #8.  This is the time of year that it is crunch time to finish models for our AdeptiCon list’s and I am no different.  Going into the week I still needed to complete my Khador ‘Winter Guard Rifle Corps’ for the Warmachine/Hordes “Who’s The Boss” Tournament and I was slacking with that Unit until this past Friday.  I also was able to start on some ‘Kayazy Eliminators’ for Khador yesterday which will also be played in the same event.  This Unit was in my original list for the event, but A. I was not sure if I even owned the models (which turned out I do), B. I did not think I would have time to complete them, and C. Obviously I have never played with that Unit before.  I was able to get quite a bit down on them yesterday and they should be getting wrapped up this week.  Looks like I’ll learn to play them at AdeptiCon.  I am playing “WTB” just for fun, what a better time than to learn some models.

Earlier in the week I also was able to finish up some more models for my Hordes Minions.  I am just about done with all the newer releases that came out for the Minions, ‘Longchops’ still needs to be completed and I still need to purchase some ‘Croak Raiders’ but I think the ‘Croak Raiders’ may wait till an AdeptiCon purchase (or afterwards).

Once my ‘Kayazy Eliminators’ are done, I will probably dig out my Hordes Trollbloods and try out my new color scheme for them and see how it goes.  The month of March I think will be a nice and relaxing month.  Models are completed for AdeptiCon so I am just going to pick a model that I just feel like painting.

WM: Khador Winter Guard Rifle Corps (Unit)

I have been putting off getting these models completed the last few weeks, but Friday night and yesterday I sat my but down in the painting chair and got them completed.  Nothing too fancy with these guys (just a speed paint) to have them completed and table top quality.  As I mentioned yesterday, painting Units are boring for me.  I did do a quick compare of my ‘Winter Guard Infantry’ I painted many years ago, and these ‘Winter Guard Rifle Corps’ actually do not look too bad compared to them.  They will fit right in with my ‘dirty’, ‘war-torn’ look I have with my Khador army.

The ‘Winter Guard Rifle Corps’ are the heart of almost every Khador army and I never previosly had owned the models, I was always trying to accomplish the same tasks just by using the Infantry instead.  It’ll be nice to see exactly what these models can do.

Technically these were the last models I needed to finish for AdeptiCon in 25 days (and I am happy that I am done)...but...there may be a few more models I will try and complete next for my Khador.  I have 2 Units of ‘Kayazy Eliminators’ that I may try and get done.  These 2 Units would fit real nice in my Who’s The Boss list I have planned.  If I do not get them completed, I am happy with what I have done.

WM: Progress On The Khador Winter Guard Rifle Corps

After finally just sitting on my painting table assembled and primed for days, I finally made some progress on my Khador ‘Winter Guard Rifle Corps’.  For some reason I have not had the passion to complete this Unit.  I am not much into painting Units anymore and prefer painting the Warjacks/Warbeasts, Warcaster/Warlocks and Solos.  That is probably why I also like to paint Guidl Ball so much, each model is unique.  Well it can definitely show on these guys and will look good on the table top from 10’ away.

The plan is to get them completed today and then tomorrow they go for their dullcote, I think that will also be the last of my dullcote so a run to the store will also be needed this weekend (if my local Michael’s has anymore in stock).

Back to painting....

Hordes: Minions Gatorman Husk 3 (Solo)

To complete the FA3 allowance, I have today ‘Gatorman Husk 3’.  Pretty much identical to 1 and 2, but as I mentioned it a few posts ago, I no longer care about having duplicate models/units for my Warmachine/Hordes armies (unless it is a spam list where after I buy all the models Privateer Press will then nerf them.). Usually this hapens on the FA U models (U = unlimited).

Pretty much identical to yesterday’s model, today is ‘Gatorman Husk’ number 2.  I have 1 more ‘Husk’ left of the 3 I purchased and then there is still ‘Longchops’ left to paint from the models I received at the LVO.  ‘Longchops’ may have to wait a little bit as I have him assigned to my next painting queue quarter for the year.  Currently there is not a need to get him done (besides the fact he looks really cool) so I still have some ‘Winter Guard Rifle Corps’ that need to be finished up...plus I have some Trollbloods that also will hit the painting table so I can try out my green theme on them.

The FA for Gatorman Husk’s is 3, when I looked at the model and the card I thought it would be cool to run all 3 in a list, so while my friend was picking up my pre-releases at LVO, I had him snatch up 3 of these for me.  I think the abilities that he has on the back of his card are really cool and unique and would be fun to play with.  They’ll make my opponent think twice before killing them (when they are disabled you center a 5” AOE on it and models suffer a POW 12 corrosion damage roll).  I can see myself running these guys into groups of Units and if left alone they can capture a Flag or contest a Zone.

Hordes: Minions Boil Master & Spirit Cauldron (Unit)

Now back to a few Minion models for the week and we start it all off with the final models (Unit) needed for my half of the 2018 AdeptiCon Warmachine/Hordes Team Tournament with ‘Boil Master & Spirit Cauldron’.

‘Boil Master & Spirit Cauldron’ are a “given” when running a ‘Barnabas 2’ list since he can benefit greatly from the corpse tokens it can collect and generate.  The ‘Cauldron’ can also deliver corpse tokens to friendly models that are within 5” once per turn during it’s activation.  Most fo the current ‘Baranabas 2’ lists that are out there are trying to squeeze in 2 of these Units, but unfortunately I had my friend only purchase me one at the LVO.  It did just get release to the general public back on the 9th of this month, so I still may end up with a second one in the future (we shall see how this one plays out).  Now my partners half of his Team Tournament list can also benefit from the ‘Cauldron’ since it says “friendly” model and not “friendly faction”, but trying to get two of them in a 35 point list would be really tough.

Now all I need to do to get ready for the Team Tournament is play some games and see what ‘Barnabas 2’ can do.

Weekly Chronicle 2018 #7

Week #7 is now completed for 2018 and things are rolling pretty good on the hobby side of things.  My game count for the year is only at 5, but that is ok, more of my enjoyment comes from building and painting the models (though I am not the greatest painter), it is the feeling I get when I see the model completely finished.

Anyways, I stayed on track last week completely 3 new models along with finishing up ‘Barnabas 2’ for my Minions army.  Nothing new hit the painting table for Guild Ball last week, nor was I able to attend any of the events (Sunday the 11th and this past Saturday the 17th).  When the wife works retail and you have a whole house full of pets along with a dog, it is hard to get away for an entire day.  As much as I though when the year started that Guild Ball will be my Tournament game for the year, I already missed out on a few local events and changed my plans for the AdeptiCon Championships (to Warmachine/Hordes).  Part of the reason is that I know when my son moves here in the Summer, we’ll get in a lot of friendly games down here in the basement (and I’ll get to try out all my different Guilds).

With 10 days left in the month, Painting Points are looking pretty good so far too.  I have 26 points for the month which is the same as last month (though last month’s total was 51, with a 25 point ‘Dracodile’) and I have a pretty healthy backlog of models still for the month.

Last Monday I was able to get out to Kalamazoo for another game of Warmachine/Hordes which ended in another loss for my Minions.  I am not sure if I will be able to get out this week, but next time I play, it will be with ‘Barnabas 2’.

Hordes: Trollbloods Back On The Table

It has been 2 years since I painted my last Trollbloods Solo and 2-1/2 years since my last Warbeast.  I have always like the models of the Trollbloods, but painting the blue for me was very time consuming and I could not get it quite the way I liked it.  I only like to play with painted models so most of my work is aimed at ‘table top quality’, I do spend some extra time on characters, but if it looks good to me then I am happy.

As you can see if you read this blog, lately most of my models have been the Minions (which I do like more than Trollbloods), but I can coming close to the finish line on having all of them done and I am always looking for more models to add to my painting queue.  There is still a few Solos and such I still need to add to my Minions and if I want to duplicate more Warbeasts, but it’s time to maybe dig out the Trollbloods again.

The other day while driving home from a game againsy my friend (who played Trollbloods), I got to thinking about my Trollbloods and “what if I paint them in my Minions scheme”, it paints much faster than the blue scheme I am currently using.  I am still going to keep the blue ones that are finished blue and run them together in a list, but I think the Minions scheme will look pretty good on them and I can get them completed a bit faster.

So on Friday I dug out all my Trollbloods models that I currently have unpainted and painted and made out a list.

I really did not realize that I owned that many models, especially unpainted ones.  Looks like I have enough to keep me busy for awhile.  After researching some current Trollbloods lists that I can utilize my models with, I did come up a few short and had to put in an order with my son back in Arizona.

I know I need to start working on my ‘Winterguard Rifle Corp’, but I am getting the itch to try out a model in the new scheme.

Stay tuned........

Hordes: Minions Barnabas, Lord of Blood (Warlock)

‘Barnabas, Lord of Blood’ or ‘Barnabas 2’ for short was just released on January 19th and I was able to pick him up the following weekend at my LGS.  I have been waiting for the Minions to get a caster like ‘Barnabas 2’.  I am very comfortable with my Khador playstyle of running ‘Butcher 1’ that whenever I played my Minions I did not have the same feeling.  Now with ‘Barnabas 2’, he is a get up in your face and kill everything type of caster.  I am really looking forward to giving him a try.

As I just mentioned above I picked him up at the end of January and I have been slowing working on him.  I try not to rush painting my Warlocks/Warcasters and ‘Barnabas 2’ was no exception.

One more model to go and my AdeptiCon Team Tournament list will be fully painted.

Hordes: Minions Gatorman Soul Slave (Solo)

The Minions ‘Gatorman Soul Slave’ is another new model released from Privateer Press three weeks ago on Janyary 26th.  I had drove down to South Bend the next day to my local game store in order to purchase him, but they did not receive any (the trip was not wasted as I did pick up other models at that time).  So I had to drive back home and start looking online.  Privateer Press showed them as out of stock right away on their site, but I did manage to find an online retailer that showed they had some in stock, so I was happy.

The ‘Gatorman Soul Slave’ seems to be a must add now in Minion lists.  He is an attachment to your Warlock and one of his many benefits is that he allows you to Upkeep one Spell for free (which is really nice to have).

I am now getting much closer to finishing my AdeptiCon Team Tournament list...should be done by next week.

Hordes: Minions Bone Shrine 2 (Solo)

Today we have the second Bone Shrine to complete the matching set.  They are FA2 (meaning you are allowed to field 2 of them in a list) so I figured I’d better have both of them.  As I mentioned a little while back, I used to not care to have multiples of the same models, but recently that has changed for some reason.  Maybe part of the reason is I want to play Hordes more and get better at it and I’ll need lists that are somewhat competitive, plus recently the resin models coming from Privateer Press (especually these Minions) have been looking really good.

Hordes: Minions Bone Shrine 1 (Solo)

Back to hitting my painting queue for the week.  Continuing with some of the early model releases at Las Vegas Open, I am now working on the two Bone Shrines that I purchased.  These models can be deployed 12” beyond your Deployement Zone and you can channel spells through them.  They do not move in the game, but can be great to also hold a Flag.  I think these are the most candles I have ever painted.  I usually do my candles in a off-white color, but wanted to do something different with them on this model to stand out from all the skulls, so I elected to try red.

Daily Chronicle: Warmachine/Hordes AdeptiCon 2018 Team Tournament Decision

The past couple of days I have been going back and forth about what list should I play in the AdeptiCon 2018 Warmachine/Hordes Team Tournament.  Each player is allowed 35 Points and I could not decide between my Khador ‘Butcher 1’ list, my Minions ‘Maelok’ list or my Minions ‘Barnabas 2’ list.  This morning I finally made my decision and I am going with the Minions ‘Barnabas 2’ list.  After further looking into the list I saw that it could also really benefit my partners (son) list who will be playing ‘Kromac 2’.  So we are going to be playing with two Warlocks who can really put down the beating.

Also part of my reason for chosing Minions over Khador is, yesterday I contacted AdeptiCon and traded in my Guild Ball Championships ticket on Friday to partake in the Warmachine/Hordes Who’s The Boss event instead.  Who’s The Boss is geared towards attaining achievements instead of winning the game.  It really sounded like it could be a lot of fun and I am more into having fun at these events over winning.  I decided that for the Who’s The Boss event that I’ll play my Khador army.  I still will be playing in the Guild Ball Homelands Cup on Sunday which is another fun event.  So I’ll still get my Guild Ball fix for the weekend (probably also a practice game Thursday/Friday night with my son.)

Now that the decision has been made to play ‘Barnabas 2’, another slight re-order in my painting queue.  ‘Barnabas 2’ is really close to be completed, but  I will have to slide the ‘Boil Master & Spirit Cauldron’ ahead of my ‘Winter Guard Rifle Corps’.  I still want to finish the ‘Rifle Corps’ for the Who’s The Boss event, but I do have a backup Khador list just in case they do not get done.

Just under 37 days till AdeptiCon.

Weekly Chronicle 2018 #6

Last week was week #6 for 2018 and I stayed on par with completing 4 more models, plus started on another 3.  I have also been slowly working on ‘Barnabas 2’ and he is coming along nicely, hopefully in another week or so he should be completed.  Once I get my Khador ‘Winter Guard Rifle Corps’ ready for the table I know that will probably slow me down a bit..  Being a Unit of 10 men, they may take me a little longer to finish.

The weather last week kept me from getting any games in, snow on Monday night and again on Thursday night kept me grounded indoors for the week.  The plan is hopefully to get out tonight for a Hordes game.

WM/H: Khador-Minions Weekend Prep Work 2/11/2018

Sundays are usually my day to prep models for the upcoming week, no different today.  Since I am still undecided what my plans are for AdeptiCon 2018, I need to get myself prepared and start building my Khador ‘Winterguard Rifle Corps’, and these guys were not fun to build at all.  I spoiled myself lately with the new resin models and metal models that I forgot about all the little pieces that need to be glued on plastic models.

I also decided to start assembling my ‘Gatorman Husks’, just to throw them on the painting table when I get a little tired of working on the ‘Rifle Corps’.

My objective for the day is to have all the below models are on their bases, then throoughout the week I can slowly start to prime them.

AdeptiCon Warmachine/Hordes Team Tournament...Decisions

AdeptiCon 2018 is just under 40 days away and I am still deciding on what lists to play for my events (and actually what events...I have been changing my mind lately on what to play Friday and need to decide quickly).

On Saturday of AdeptiCon my son and I are playing in the Warmachine/Hordes Team Tournament.  It is 35 Points per player and you can mix Factions and game systems.

My son will be playing his Hordes Circle of Orboros army led by ‘Kromac 2’, and I cannot decide between playing my Hordes Minions or Warmachine Khador.  I thought I was set on playing my Minions (I do like the paint jobs much better on them and I like the actual models better), but with my Khador, I know them a little bit better, I can play them faster on the clock and I like the Warmachine Focus mechanic better also.

My problem with playing my Khador army is...I still would have to complete a 10 man Unit of ‘Winter Guard Rifle Corp’ and finish my ‘Decimator’ Warjack.  I just opened the box of ‘Rifle Corp’ and there is a bit to assemble, will probably take me most of today (with other errands also planned for the day).  My Minions list is all done.  Yes I still have Minions models to still assemble and paint, but none are “needed” for my list, if they get done then it just gives me more options for my Minions.

Here are the two lists I am debating about.

War Room Army

Khador - 35 Butcher 1 T MkIV.1 (2xJug/1xDec)

Theme: Winter Guard Kommand
1 / 1 Free Cards     35 / 35 Army

-    Winter Guard Rocketeer - PC: 2
-    Winter Guard Rocketeer - PC: 2
-    Winter Guard Rocketeer - PC: 2
Winter Guard Mortar Crew - Gunner & Grunt: 0

War Room Army

Minions - 35 Maelok T BC MkI.3

Theme: The Blindwater Congregation
1 / 1 Free Cards     35 / 35 Army

Maelok the Dreadbound - WB: +28
-    Gatorman Soul Slave - PC: 0
-    Blackhide Wrastler - PC: 16 (Battlegroup Points Used: 16)
-    Bull Snapper - PC: 5 (Battlegroup Points Used: 5)
-    Blind Walker - PC: 10 (Battlegroup Points Used: 7)

Bone Shrine - PC: 2
Gatorman Witch Doctor - PC: 4

-    Void Leech - PC: 1
Gatorman Posse (Blindwater) - Leader & 2 Grunts: 10
-    Void Leech - PC: 1

I really like them both, I guess it will be decided if I can finish the ‘Rifle Corp’ or get frustrated by them.  If I do finish them, I also am thinking about using them on Friday for a “Who’s The Boss” event.
