Daily Chronicle: Warmachine Weekend is now Warfaire Weekend

The other day the Facebook Page for "Warmachine Weekend" changed names to "Warfaire Weekend" and a lot of people were asking about this.  After this past "Warmachine Weekend", it was announced that Carl who has been running it from the beginning was letting go of "Warmachine Weekend" and there was a new team taking over the duties.  Chris and Gonzo stepped up to plate and will now be running "Warmachine Weekend", well actually "Warfaire Weekend".  Last night at 8:00 PM EST, Chris and Gonzo held a Facebook Live Q&A session to answer anyone's questions and explain a little bit about "Warfaire Weekend".

In the picture, the first thing you may notice (besides the name) is that date of "Warfaire Weekend" will be November 8th-10th.  The past few years the event has been the first weekend of November, but it looks like for 2019 it will be the second.

Onto the name change.  Having a fresh start for the event, Chris and Gonzo thought it would also be a perfect time for a name change, the name change was mainly for legality issues over the name "Warmachine", but also they will like to expand the event to include multiple game manufacturers and not strictly just Privateer Press.  They did say that in now way will they be dropping anything related to Privateer Press, just wanted the option to expand.

Currently they did not mention exactly what new games are coming to "Warfaire Weekend", but they are in talks with manufacturers on bringing the games.  First if possible they would like the actual manufacturer to run the new games, then if needed they will ask for volunteers.  Sounds like a good plan to bring new/more vendors into the weekend.

So depending on what events will be happening at "Warfaire Weekend", this event has now been added to my calendar as a "maybe".

Weekly Chronicle 2018 #43

It was another decent week for me in the hobbies/gaming world, with getting a few models completed an a few games played.  I do not think I will be last year's Painting Points or Models Completed,  but that is also due to fact I do have a lot more games played this year than I have last year.  As of today, I have 68 games played this year compared to 31 games played for all of last year.  I have more than doubled my games played and there is still two months left in the year...who knows, maybe I will hit 100, if not, then that may be on my list of things to accomplish for 2019.  Going back to my point, with more games played, it equals less time to paint, but I am coming around to the point that I am OK with that.

For modeling last week, it was mainly just Guild Ball models (actually looking back at the week, it was all Guild Ball models).  I was able to finish for the Blacksmith's Guild, 'Veteran Cinder' and 'Bolt', and for my Butcher's Guild, 'Veteran Gutter' was completed.  I also managed to prep a few Guild Ball models and those should be completed this week.

On the gaming side for the week, I managed to play 4 games, 3 games of Guild Ball and 1 game of Arena Rex, not too shabby for me considering there was no event that I attended.

This week on Thursday kicks off Warmachine Weekend, and last week I had decided to cancel my hotel room for the event and will not be attending.  A few reasons led me up to this decision, one is that my son was not able to get the weekend off so I would be traveling alone (not a big deal as I had other friends attending), two the lack of information from the organizers (I know, I am playing a broken record) has been horrible this year, only just last night did they finally post any information for the doubles tournament for the weekend.  That is one event that if I had planned on playing would have liked to have known how many points was needed so you and your teammate can work on a list.  I understand real life an get in the way when you organize big events like this, but this event is not in its rookie stages, this is the 15th year for Warmachine Weekend and I would think after that amount of time, it would be better organized.  The main organizer is stepping down this year and it looks like it will be taken over by someone else, we shall see what happens.....as of right now I have no plans for WMW next year, but may be attending SteamCon US instead.

That's a wrap for this weeks Weekly Chronicle, it will be a semi-shortened week for me coming up, as I still had the days scheduled for vacation due to WMW, the wife and I instead will take a short trip to  Frankenmuth, MI for a little get away.

Weekly Chronicle 2018 #42 (Warmachine Weekend is a No Go)

As the title of my post says, with only 10 days before Warmachine Weekend starts, it looks like it is a No Go for my son and I to attend this year.  My son informed yesterday afternoon that he could not get the days off from work to be able to attend.  If I really wanted to (and I still may, I have not fully decided) I may decide to go down by myself.  Driving 6 hours by myself is not a problem, it i just that spending that kind of money to play in only 2 "fun events" they have listed may not be worth.  I have been complaining all year that the lack of information from them is ridiculous this year, 10 days to go and they still do not have all the information updated.  The only thing leaning me towards still going is that I do have a few friends attending and one has told me that gaming is 24 hours (so I probably would get a lot of friendly games in).  The cost of my tickets for my son and I cannot be refunded, but I had estimated it would save me around $750 (hotel/gas/food) if I elected to stay home.  I will probably sleep on it for a few more nights before I come up with my final decision and then cancel my hotel room if need be.

Moving onto some Guild Ball, now that my son has to work WMW and we have been getting in some games of Guild Ball, he said that he should be able to get off on Saturday November 10th.  Ft. Wayne, IN is having their first Season 4 Guild Ball tournament and the both of us will now be planning on attending.  So that means over the next 3 weeks, we will need to get in some more practice games.  I think we will also change up the Guilds the opponent plays so we can get some practice against different Guilds.  I have been meaning to attend a Guild Ball tournament for the last year and half, and never made it out to one (there is one this weekend too in Grand Rapids, but it is doubtful at the moment, if I stay home, then my son would be able to get in a practice game) so this would be our first official tournament.

Gaming last week was pretty decent, I was able to get in 3 games of Guild Ball in and 1 game of X-Wing which was yesterday afternoon.

For painting, I did manage to get 2 models completed for the Blacksmith's Guild, 'Alloy' and 'Burnish', and I have 'Veteran Cinder' ready to go on the painting table.

Weekly Chronicle 2018 #41

Last week was a really good week for me in terms of gaming, and at least getting something completed model wise.

For painting, I was finally able to get 'Brun Cragback & Lug' completed for my Minions army.  I wanted these models completed for Warmachine Weekend, and mission was accomplished.  I should be all set for WMW model wise, but I may try and get one more model completed, we shall see, I may be putting some Guild Ball models up next on the painting table.

For gaming, I would have to say it was one of the best weeks all year.  Last week I was able to play 8 games across 4 different systems.  Saturday my son and I had a games day at home, and yesterday I attended the Michigan GT for Warmachine/Hordes.  I will be breaking down those days into separate posts, either later today or tomorrow.

One more thing to point out about Warmachine Weekend, the other day they posted in Facebook that next week they should have more info on events....."next week"... that only leave 2 weeks before the event to get models and armies ready.  Everyone tells me its a fun event to attend, but the lack of information is really not acceptable.

Weekly Chronicle 2018 #38

Not much painting was completed last week, but I did start on another 10 'Warriors of the Dead' for MeSBG.  I am not sure if they will get completed this week, if anything I may have some time Friday night or Saturday morning, then I have to get ready for vacation next week.

Gaming wise, I did manage to get in 4 games of X-Wing.  The first 2 games were just from the Starter Set, but the last 2 were full 200 point games.  Pictures from game 4 will be posted later today.

Warmachine/Hordes: right now much going on with WM/H.  I still have a lot of models that need to be completed but just do not have the passion at the moment.  If I was more excited for Warmachine Weekend, then maybe.  Warmachine Weekend did finally release a small event schedule, but just a list of the tournament games, non of the fun events yet which is why I was planning to go.  Last night we had a personal setback with a broken dryer, so the funds allocated for WMW may have to go to the new dryer (we shall see).  When I get back from vacation on 10/8 I need to evaluate where I am with Warmachine/Hordes and see if we are still going to WMW.

Arena Rex: nothing new to report here either, no new models completed.  I am hoping to maybe get in a game tonight or Thursday night since it has been over a week since I last played.  If we play Arena Rex tonight, then it will be X-Wing Thursday night or vice versa.

Weekly Chronicle 2018 #37

Another week has flown by and at least I did manage to get a few models completed last week ('Nero' for Arena Rex and 'The King of the Dead' for MeSBG) and a game of Arena Rex played on Saturday night.  My son and I were hoping to also try X-Wing 2.0 after our Arena Rex game, but the organizing of all the new 2.0 items is taking longer than expected.

This week we are hoping to get in some more games of Arena Rex with my friend TJ, and more than likely finally trying out X-Wing 2.0.  We'll see if time allows to get in another game of MeSBG.

Warmachine Weekend is approaching fast in early November, and to be honest, right now I am not to excited about it.  I think the main reason is the lack of information from the event organizers.  Their website has been offline all year, and with 45 days left till the start of the event, there still is no information.  A few weeks back I even posted on their Facebook page, with no response.  It would be nice to see what events are happening so I know what armies I want to bring with and play.  If it was not for their "no refund" policy, I think I would have asked for a refund.  I am still thinking about sending them an email asking for a refund for their lack of information.

I have too many games and not enough time, new TV shows are starting up next week and it is going to get even worse.

Also in early November, AdeptiCon will be releasing their events schedule (take note Warmachine Weekend) and I need to decide what I will be playing in 2019.  More than likely I will be giving Arena Rex a try at AdeptiCon, after that, I will need to see what fits in my schedule around Arena Rex, and what games are still interesting to me.  Who knows, it may be some MeSBG, X-Wing, or even Batman.

Weekly Chronicle 2018 #28 (45 Days Till The NOVA Open)

Time is really flying by, especially when it seems like you are not getting that many models completed.  Last week was actually probably a pretty decent week for me, not in terms of getting models completed, but as a whole.  I was able to get in two 50 point games of Warmachine/Hordes in (practice for “Breakfastmachine”) and I did complete a new Warcaster for my Khador army with ‘Karchev The Terrible’.

Not too much was done painting wise this past weekend, I do have two ‘Greylord Forge Seers’ on the table, but on Saturday I decided to start building some of the models for my Khador Man-O-War list.  I want to make sure those models are ready to go for when I get back from the NOVA Open and concentrate on finishing those models after the event.

Speaking of the NOVA Open, there is only 45 days left till the event, and I really looking forward to it.  I have never been to an East Coast event, and I have heard good things about this one.  My son and I withdrew from the Guild Ball event that is happening on Friday to open some free time, but we still have a pretty packed schedule of events.  As of now, the plan is for the following events:

Thursday: Warmachine/Hordes “3 Man Team Tournament”.

Friday: Open day, probably get in some games of WM/H in the Iron Arena and late at night we will sit in and listen to the future of “Middle-earth SBG” (formerly Lord of the Rings SBG).

Saturday: early in the morning we have Warmachine/Hordes “Breakfastmachine” and then some open play in the afternoon.

Sunday: in the morning we have Warmachine/Hordes “Speedmachine” and then the drive back home.

Once we get back from the NOVA Open, then it will be time to concentrate on Warmachine Weekend in early November.
