Privateer Press: Cygnar Mystery Box

A friend of mine in Kalamazoo recently purchased a couple of the Privateer Press Mystery Boxes (hoping for Khador) and he ended up receiving a Cryx and Cygnar box.  He posted on the Facebook Groups looking to trade someone and there were not any takers, so I contacted him if he was willing to sell the Cygnar box.  Well he did and we met today for the exchange.

My sons Warmachine army is Cygnar, so this box if for him, he really wanted to have the 'Hurricane' model.  This mystery box is a bit different than the other Cygnar ones that have been posted, instead of an Infantry Unit, it came with another Warjack (which my son and I actually prefer).

Here is a breakdown of what was inside our Mystery Box:

Battlegroup:
Major Beth Maddox
Iron Clad
Firefly
Lancer

Colossal:
Hurricane/Stormwall

Heavy Warjacks:
Stormclad/Reliant
Cyclone/Defender/Ironclad

Light Warjacks:
Sentinel

Accessory:
Cygnar Token Set

I think for $60 this was great buy for all the Warjacks....

WM: Cygnar Stormwall (Colossal)

I mentioned in my last post that I offered to my son if he wanted me to paint his Cygnar Stormwall for him so he can bring it with to the LVO Warmachine this weekend. What a mistake that was....this guy was a pain in my a$$.

For the last couple of years I keep telling myself 'brown wash' is not a good idea on white. So what do I do, I decide to try the wash again on white and I was disapponted. I should have just used the wash on the blue armor and metal, I ended up having to repainted most of the white all over again. He does now have that 'dirty' look to him that my son and I like on our Warjacks (makes them look like they were in battle and not ran through a car wash).

Also while I was painting him, I noticed my son left a lot of 'flash' behind. I wish would have really inspected the model before I primed him and I could have cleaned some of it up. My son will be taking care of painting the Lightning Pods, so I won't worry about those.

Daily Chronicle: 'Weekend Roundup 1/22-24/2016'

Since I did not finish any models this past weekend, I thought I would start up a 'Weekend Roundup' post for anything that was happening gaming related over the weekend.

On Friday night 1/22/2016 my son and I finally play tested our full 50 point lists for the Las Vegas Open. I made some slight changes to what I was originally going to play. Speed of play has been slowing me down in my games, and I thought I would probably need to take a few less models to help remedy that situation. I am going to Las Vegas for 'fun', if I win a game then great, if not, oh well, at least I got to play some Warmachine. We played the scenario 'Outflank' for the first time and we decided not to use a clock for this game since it was our first time with the full 50 points.

Conquest really does tower over everyone else.

Turns out we both played pretty slow learning our models. I had a time limit (3 hours) to play the game so we can both get home to bed (cycling race for me the next day, work for my son). In the very very end I did have 1 CP, but I am calling this game a 'Draw' since time would have expired long ago for one of us.

Saturday had no gaming or modeling for me. With driving to Picacho, AZ for a Time Trail cycling race and later in the evening taking all 3 of my boys to see the Arizona Coyotes vs Las Angeles Kings NHL game, the day was busy.

After a nice Sunday leisure coffee bike ride, I started on another model for my son. I asked him on Friday night if he wanted me to paint up his Colossal so he can bring it with the La Vegas for some 'fun' gaming with it. He said sure, so I started the prep work and laid down the first color.

During the week I had also started the base color for my Khador Ruin Warjack. He will have to be moved to the back burner while I work on Stormwall for my son.

Ruin WIP
Since I will be busy during the week working on Stormwall and maybe a little on Ruin (when I get tired of 'blue') more than likely there will not be too many posts here. But stay tuned on Twitter @TOWC_Gaming for some WIP photos of these two.

WM: Cygnar Black 13th Gun Mage Strike Team (Unit)

Cygnar is my oldest son's army and this past year he has actually started to paint his own models (when he has time...and when I push him to get his models painted). The last Cygnar model I painted for him was 'Constance Blaize' 4 1/2 years ago.

He will be joining me at LVO Warmachine next month and he still has quite a bit to get done for his army. I assembled his 'Black 13th Gun Mage Strike Team' a few weeks ago for him so he can playtest them and the other night I offered to him if he wanted me to paint them for him to help him out.

Saturday night (after having to fix my middle son's car and missing out on getting a game in), I applied the primer to the Black 13th to get them prepped for the painting table. Yesterday after getting my morning cycling in and with the NFL Football on the TV in the background, the painting commenced. By the time the Packers beat the Redskins, his Black 13th Gun Mage Strike Team Unit was completed.

These guys are very small and have a lot of detail. Tabletop quality was my goal with them.

WM: Cygnar Constance Blaize (Warcaster)

Once again it has been a few months since I lasted painted anything for Warmachine.  The last model I painted was my "Kommander Harkevich" for my 'Khador' army.

Yesterday I had a little downtime so I decided to paint up "Constance Blaize" for my son's 'Cygnar' army.  Constance has been sitting primed on my painting table for a few months so it was finally time to get her done.  Plus for my son's 16th birthday earlier this month, he received the new 'Cygnar' Warjack "Gallant", so I had to finish up "Constance Blaize" so he will be able to play the two together.

I really really really dread painting white, and the detail Privateer Press had on this model was incredible.  It was a little intimidating and I thought I was not going to do the model justice, but I feel she came out alright, at least tabletop quality.

WM: Cygnar Trencher Cannon Crew (Unit)

This was a slow week for me in regards to posting and painting models.  I did manage to get a few things done last weekend (Reinholdt and Crusader) and I finally put my son's "Trencher Cannon Crew" on the painting table the other night.  With work and personal life finding ways to slow down my painting, I was able to actually complete this Unit yesterday.

WM: Cygnar Long Gunners Officer & Standard (UA)

Back to work on a few models for my son's Cygnar army.  This is one of the two armies that my goal is to have a 50 point painted playable list (having 50 points in Warjacks to me is not considered playable so I have to paint the Units too).  Since he already had these models it was time to get them painted.  The "Long Gunners Officer & Standard" will make a nice 2 point add-on when needed.  I believe all I really have left for the Cygnar to paint will be his "Trencher Cannon Crew" and he'll be able to choose some nice lists to play with.  Anything else that we purchase for Cygnar will be just to collect the models and expand his choices.

WM: Cygnar Captain Maxwell Finn (Solo)

Here is the last of the Cygnar models my son received for Christmas "Captain Maxwell Finn".

"Finn" will be used mostly in a themed "Trencher" list that he'll run occasionally with "Siege", that is of course only when he wants to take a break from playing with "Stryker".

I am quite please on how the 'yellow' insignia turned out on "Finn".  I'm not ne who does yellow too often, but the P3 paint did a god job.

WM: Cygnar Major Marcus 'Siege' Brisbane (Warcaster)

My son finally received his third Warcaster "Major Marcus 'Siege' Brisbane" for his Cygnar army on Christmas.

For the current Warmachine League that we are participating in at or local game store (Empire Games) one of the 'Achievement's you can earn is to play a game with a fully painted Warcaster.  You can earn this achievement three times as long as it is three different Warcasters.  With that being said, I had to get 'Siege' up on the painting table ASAP so my son can earn another achievement.

WM: Cygnar Ol Rowdy (Warjack)

Cygnar's pride and joy, my son's "baby" (as he like to call him) is now finished.

Since this is the "Warjack" of Cygnar for my son's "Stryker", I wanted to spend a little more time painting this model, but at the same time to make sure the scheme matches to what I am already painting.

In the end, I am very happy with the way he turned out.

WM: Cygnar Squire (Solo)

Up first from my son's Christmas presents is the Cygnar "Squire".

With this guy I wanted him to match more of his existing Warjacks rather than how Privateer Press painted their "Squire".  Currently I have no shades of white on any of his Warjacks so I wanted to go more with the blue's on this guy.

"Squire" will make a nice 2 point filler to any list that my son plays.  The ability to ad an extra 'Focus' will be beneficial.

WM: Cygnar Long Gunners Infantry (Unit)

I finally was able to get some painting done this Winter Vacation and completed my son's Cygnar "Long Gunner Infantry" Unit.

We've been busy the last two days with outdoor activities (mainly hiking), but I was able to start on these guys yesterday, then woke up early today (to take the wife out for her birthday breakfast before she started for work) came home and I was able to finish them.

Nothing really too fancy with them (in regards to highlighting) mainly just wanted to get them out in tabletop quality (they are infantry after all).  I still have 4 more Long Gunners for the full Unit of 10, but this will be good to get him going for now.

First up we have the "Long Gunners Leader" followed by his "Grunts".

WM: Cygnar Trencher Grenade Porter (UA)

This past week I have been really busy with "work" and I did not really get a chance to get much done in regards to painting.  This coming week will also be really busy, so I decided to this past Saturday and Sunday to get a few models done.  Not as much as I had wanted to, but being to complete anything is an accomplishment.

The last two weeks of this month I will be on vacation from work to enjoy the Holidays.  I am planning (and hoping) to be able to get a lot more painted and play quite a few games.

Well up first from this weekends models is a "Trencher Grenade Porter" to add to my son's "Trencher Infantry" Unit that were completed the other day.
