WFB: Dark Elves Dreadlord w/ Great Weapon

I was on pace to go the whole month without painting a single model, I could not let that happen, I had to get at least one Painting Point in for the month.  The next few weeks will be busy with 'life', so I am not sure how much will be painted in the next 2-3 weeks.  I would like to still get a few more models completed this month.

It has almost been 4 years since I last painted a Warhammer Fantasy model.  For some reason lately, I had the urge to get back into Fantasy.  It may be because of the recent release of the new Wood Elves book.  When I first started into war-gaming back in 2002, it was with Warhammer Fantasy, and I had just about every army available.  Through the years most of them have sold off, but I did manage to hold onto four armies, Dark Elves, Dwarfs, Empire and Wood Elves (my son also has unpainted High Elves).  Seeing how most of my armies/lists are pretty old, I'll need to update some of the armies to be competitive.

With my Dark Elves army, my previous Dreadlord was mounted on a Cold One.  With the recent Dark Elves book, they removed most of the magic items that made him viable.  So now I needed a Dreadlord/Master on foot so he can join one of my rank and file units.

So I present to you, my first Warhammer Fantasy model in four years, Dark Elves Dreadlord.

WFB: Lizardmen Skirmish Skinks

Games Workshop©
Better a little late than never.  This past weekend I started work on my new Lizardmen army.  I decided to start with the Skirmish Skinks.  I thought the Skinks would be a good start for me since they looked fairly easy.

Saturday night I received my Stegadon, so I tried to match my Skinks as close to possible as to the Skinks that were riding the Stegadon.  Not a perfect match, but I feel they came out pretty decent.

WFB: The Start Of A Lizardmen Army

Games Workshop©
The other day a friend of mine was looking to unload a Lizardmen Battalion box that he had an extra.  Lately's he's been playing Warmachine/Hordes and I had some extra WM/H models lying around.  SI I mentioned to him that I had some Everblight/Skorne/Orboros models that I no longer needed.  He was intersted in my Orboros.  Seeing how I will probably not have time to play Hordes I traded all of my Orboros (abut $150 in retail) for the Lizardmen Battalion.  Yes he got an good deal, but at least for me the Lizardmen models will get some use instead of just sitting in the garage.

Yesterday was also "Mercenary Market" at Empire Games here in Mesa, AZ.  Mercenary Market is like a flea market.  You setup the items you want to sell on a table, and all transactions are actually handles through the cash register of the store.  At the end of the day you then receive store credit so you can purchase any new items.  You are also allowed to use your store credit to make purchases from other individuals who are selling items.  So I decided to bring along the painted Everblight and Skorne armies, Warrhammer 40K Orks, Warhammer 40K Thousand Sons, unopened Blood Bowl, Flames of War Campaign Box, 2 gangs for Necromunda, 2 fleets for Battlefleet Gothic.  I priced my items to sell.  I did not need them to sit around anymore.  I was able to unload everything but the Skorne and FoW campaign box.  So I then earned some money to go shopping.

I picked up another Lizardmen Battalion, Slann Mage Priest and a Battle Standard Bearer.  I also purchased some more items for my son's High Elves army that will be given to him at Christmas.

Last but not least, a fellow gamer here in the Valley who has his own painting studio "Tainted Brush" was advertising some Stegadon's he had for sale here on our local forums.  He had three Stegadon's for sale.  I wish I could have bought all three, but with the holiday's just around the corner and just coming back from Disneyland, I was only able to purchase one.  He was able to swing by Empire Games last night to drop off.

I know have over 2000 points in Lizardmen to get me started.  I'd like to eventually change up some of the models in the list, but for now I'll mostly run with what comes in the two Battalions.

Here is a shot of the Stegadon that was added to my army.

WFB: Dark Elves Spearmen (x2)

Games Workshop©
This past week I was able to work on and complete the final two units for my Warhammer Fantasy Dark Elves army.  Two units of Spearmen are now completed.

This is the first time ever I was able to paint up that many rank and file guys in one week.  So I now have 2000 points of Dark Elves completed.  Actually I have a little more since I have an Assassin and the Queen Hag that are also completed and I can use them in larger games.

I still have one unit of 20 Black Guard that I would also like to complete and I am working on converting a model to act as a Battle Standard Bearer.  For now the Dark Elves are complete and when time permits (or I'm bored with the other projects) I'll then come back to the Dark Elves.

WFB: Empire Army Re-Based

Games Workshop©
My Warhammer Fantasy Empire Army is now fully re-based to my new standards for my Fantasy armies.  Over 3000+ points, roughly about 175 models.

Along with re-basing the entire army, I also took the time to "touch" them up.  The Games Workshop washes did a great job for this.

Here are two pictures showing my Empire bases before and after.

WFB: High Elves 1200 Points Assembled

Games Workshop©
Well, actually a little bit more than 1200 points are assembled.  The High Elves Battalion box, 2 Units of 5 Ellyrian Reavers, 1 Mage, 1 Battle Standard Bearer and 1 Prince on steed have been all assembled for my son.  Now when we will actually start painting them, who knows.  I am still trying to catch up on a lot of other items.

We are going to try and playtest his 1200 point list this weekend.  The High Elves may be facing their nemesis on the dark side....  the Dark Elves.

Painting Points: March 2010

I knew March was going to be a slow month for me to achieve any Painting Points, and my total for the month was 0.  With all my models and paints packed for the move back to Arizona, and final preparations for AdeptiCon 2010, nothing was going to get painted.

April will hopefully be a better month for me.  Once we get settled in Arizona, I'll be finishing up my Imperial Guard to at least 1750 points, then the Tyranids will be making their appearance.

Painting Points: February 2010

The start of February I was still in high gear with the painting, but throughout the month it kind of tapered off with not painting anything the last week of February.  Most of the models I need/want to paint are already boxed up for moving.  I do have four Heavy Bolter Imperial Guard Teams that should be getting done this month and if time allows I may purchase the one last Hellhound that I need and try to get that completed.

Here is a recap of what was completed in February:

Warhammer Fantasy
10x Wood Elves Glade Guard (10)

Warhammer 40,000
Imperial Guard: 1st Infantry Platoon; Squads 1 & 2 (8)
Imperial Guard: 1st Infantry Platoon Command (5)
Imperial Guard: 114th Cadian 2nd Infantry Platoon (21)

Total Painting Points for the month: 44
Total Painting Points for the year: 179

March will be a slow month, hopefully once I get settled back in Arizona the first weekend of April, I'll then be able to finish my Imperial Guard and move on to the Tyranids.

WFB: Wood Elves Glade Guard (Unit #3)

Well it only took over two years, but I finally finished the three units of Glade Guard Archers for my son's Warhammer Wood Elves army.  I was not really motivated in Fantasy too much over the last two years, but a new 'league' that we are currently playing here in Illinois has helped get me motivated.  As you can see from all the Dark Elves and Wood Elves that I have recently completed.  I still enjoy playing 40K more than Fantasy, but I like the Fantasy 'realm' a little bit more.

Anyways, here are pictures of the third unit.

That is one more item to cross of the list for February.  Now I believe I am done painting Fantasy until we officially move.

Painting Points: Last Day Of January 2010

Well today is the last day of January and I think this month is most I have ever painted, at least it felt like it.  Here is a recap of what was accomplished for the month.

Warhammer Fantasy
2x Dark Elves Reaper Bolt Throwers (8)
10x Wood Elves Glade Guard (10)
3x Wood Elves Tree Kin (6)
10x Dark Elves Harpies (10)
10x Dark Elves Dark Riders (20)
1x Dark Elves War Hydra (5)
2x Dark Elves War Hydra Beastmasters (2)

Warhammer 40,000
24x Imperial Guard Special Weapon Infantry (4 Squads) (no pics) (24)
1x Imperial Guard Hellhound (10)
4x Imperial Guard Chimera's (40)

Total Painting Points for the month: 135

I guess now it's onto February.
My goals for February will be to finish the final unit of Wood Elves Glade Guard for my son, and continue working on the rest of the Infantry for my Imperial Guard.  With going to Arizona for 10 days (leaving on the 12th) to drop off one of cars and attend "Gathering in the Desert", I'm not sure how much painting will actually get done this month.  That is one of the reasons I really stepped it up for January.  I can say that I am now all painted for "AdeptiCon".

WFB: Dark Elves War Hydra (Beastmasters)

As promised, here are the Beastmasters to go along with their Hydra.  I believe I am done painting Dark Elves now until the move to Arizona.  I have left 2 units of 20 Warriors FC Spear/Shield and 1 unit of Black Guard.  For the time being I am playing with these unpainted.  Once I finish another unit of Glade Guard for my son and get my Imperial Guard vehicles done for AdeptiCon I may start on some of the Warriors mentioned above.  We'll see....  IG first!

WFB: Dark Elves War Hydra

While waiting yesterday for my primer to arrive for my Imperial Guard, I decide to paint up my War Hydra to pass along the time.  I do not need this model for AdeptiCon, but I do for my 2250 point list so I figure I might as well get her done.  I was able to paint/dip/base all in one day.  This morning the matte spray was applied, I did not want to take any chances and I was giving the dip more time to fully dry.  I am very pleased the way she came out.  Up next I'll do the Beastmasters for the Hydra so I can call this unit complete.  Then all that is left for the Dark Elves will be the three large block units.

WFB: Dark Elves Dark Riders

This is a historic post for me, #14 for the month.  14 posts is the most I have blogged in one month since I started 'The Old West Chronicle'.

Anyways, this past Sunday seeing I had no more IG could paint, I decided to continue on with the Dark Elves.  I needed one unit of Dark Riders to complete to finish up my list for the AdeptiCon Fantasy Team Tournament.  I decided to paint up both units that I have and will need for my 2250 point list.  I finished up the bases last night and applied the matte coat this morning.  Here are some pics of one of these units.

WFB: Dark Elves Harpies

Started working on my Dark Elf Harpies yesterday and I was able to finish them up today. Just one unit of Dark Riders to finish and my 1000 point AdeptiCon force will be all painted.

The rest of my 2250 point army will have to wait to get painted till after we move back to Arizona, unless everything I need for AdeptiCon gets done rather quickly. All I have left for my 2250 point list would be; 2 Units of 20 Warriors Spear/Shields, 1 Unit of 20 Black Guard, and 1 Hydra.

WFB: Wood Elves Treekin

This past Christmas my son received a unit of 3 Treekin for his Wood Elves army. Usually it takes me about the whole year to paint up one of his Christmas presents. Well this year, we decided to get them done right away. I assembled the models for him and also primed them black for him. I had my son apply the base coat of Bestial Brown and I followed up with the drybrushing, highlights and dip. Here are the results.

WFB: Wood Elves Glade Guard

Saturday night I was also able to complete my son's first unit of Glade Guard Archers. I have 3 Units of 10 that I also need to complete for him. His Wood Elves army is already painted with the older figures. We are slowly replacing those with the newer models. Some of the older models will stay in his army like the Wardancers and Waywatchers. They are currently painted to a nice quality.

So thanks again to "The Army Painter" these got done rather quickly. Just 2 more Units to go.

WFB: Dark Elves Warriors with Repeater Crossbows

As promised, here are a couple pictures of my recently completed Dark Elves Warriors with Repeater Crossbows. I have 3 Units of 10 completely finished for my army.

BTW, I was able to get my first 1500 point game with the Dark Elves today. We were only able to complete 3 Turns due to time constraints. The Magic is awesome, my dice were cold for Shooting and Combat.

Hopefully I can get another game in Wednesday night.
