W40K: IG 1500/1750 Alternate Lists

Seeing how I still do not have my second Hellhound (and probably will not for a few more weeks, boy do moving expenses really add up....) I decided to redo some of my earlier lists I published to remove the second Hellhound and add in the Leman Russ.  Plus, I really do like the Executioner, it really paid off at AdeptiCon.

Here are my two new standard lists for 1500/1750 points, followed by my new fully mechanized 1500 point list.

Daily Chronicle: 4/9/2010: Tyranids & Imperial Guard

As I said the other day, I was going to head over to Empire Games for a Warhammer Fantasy game against my son on Wednesday night (we are still involved in 'League' play through what I had said up in Illinois).  The League consists of 10 weeks and we just played week #6.  I scheduled back-back games against my son so I'll also play him in week #7.  Then both of us will have to forfeit weeks 8-10.  If your interested in checking out the current standings of the Illinois League, click HERE

While at Empire Games I purchased some more models for my Tyranid army.  Purchased 2 boxes of Hormagaunts and 2 boxes of Genestealers.  All my Troop choices are now purchased.  I still have left to buy 1 Tyrant Guard, 4 Zoanthrope's and 2 Trygon's for my 1750 point army.  These may have to wait a few more weeks when I have $200 lying around.

Yesterday I managed to unbox  all my Warhammer models and get my painting station all setup.  While setting up my station, I realized I threw out all my old brushes while packing (thinking I was going to try the new GW brushes when I arrived).  So I'll have to add some brushes to my list of items to pick up this weekend.

With my models all unpacked, I was ready to continue with the Imperial Guard.  I have 4 Chimera's to build, 4 Heavy Bolters to paint and still need to purchase 1 Hellhound.  The Hellhound can wait since I will not need the second one until I play with 2000 points.  I managed to assemble 2 of the Chimera's today.  Hopefully tonight I'll put the other 2 together then I can finally try out my list.  Probably wont be able to try them this weekend, but possible Monday night I'll get a game in.

I also finally got around to updating my Painting Points on he left hand Sidebar for March, that was not to hard to do since it was zero.  That will change this month.  Back to getting armies done and playing some games.

W40K: Tyranids 1750/2000 Lists (Final)

Awhile back I mentioned I was modifying my Tyranid lists a bit to match more how the items are packaged.  I said I was going to post my new lists, but I guess I never did.  Tonight I'll be heading to Empire Games for some Fantasy gaming, while there I'll pick up a few more models for what I need to get my Tyranids to 1750 points.

Daily Chronicle: 4/6/2010: Settling in the "Old West"

Well we arrived back in Arizona this past Friday morning (3 AM local time).  The trip was very uneventful (which is a good thing), but we did manage to make one stop along the way.  While driving through New Mexico we stopped at Billy the Kids grave site.  My three boys are all interested in the 'old west' and Billy the Kid, so it was a nice stop to stretch the legs and do some souvenir shopping.

The moving truck (driven by my cousins) arrived late Friday night, so we decided that we would just unload the truck first Saturday morning.  The unloading went real quick and we are almost settled in.  All the essentials items are all put away, really what's left is my boy's toys and my Warhammer toys.  I'll get to those as soon as I can.

I was hoping to be able to start on my final four Chimera's this week, but the little items are keeping me away from that.  I'll stay up late Friday night to start assembling them and hopefully sometime Saturday I'll be able to spray the basecoat on them.  I'm really anxious to get my Imperial Guard done.  Hopefully soon.  After AdeptiCon I made some slight changes to my 1750 IG list (so I wont need the second Hellhound for that list, but will still need it for my 2000 point list).  As long as I can have my 1750 list done soon, I'll be ready to play.  It will give me a little bit of time then to finish out the 2000 points.

I plan on stopping at Empire Games this Wednesday night to get a Fantasy game in with my son, while I'm there I'll also pick up some more Tyranid models that I need for that army (my birthday was last week and when we arrived in Arizona, my parents gave me a birthday card with some green stuff inside.....)

Painting Points: March 2010

I knew March was going to be a slow month for me to achieve any Painting Points, and my total for the month was 0.  With all my models and paints packed for the move back to Arizona, and final preparations for AdeptiCon 2010, nothing was going to get painted.

April will hopefully be a better month for me.  Once we get settled in Arizona, I'll be finishing up my Imperial Guard to at least 1750 points, then the Tyranids will be making their appearance.

Daily Chronicle: 3/29/2010: ACON 2010 Recap

I dont have much time at the moment to blog, busy getting the place packed and ready for the moving truck on Wednesday, but I just wanted to do a quick recap for my weekend at AdeptiCon 2010.

First I wont to thank everyone involved with AdeptiCon 2010, I know it takes a lot of work to run an event like this, so THANK YOU.

With already taking this week off from work, I was not able to take Friday off to attend any events, so Friday night my son and I hit the Con to check-in for the weekend, and to check-in our 40K Team for Saturday.

Saturday, my son and I were playing in the Warhammer 40K Team Tourney (4 man event).  Our team, "Taros II" consisted of all four of our team members playing Imperial Guard.  Myself and Allan H were playing Cadians, Jeff F was playing Elysians and my son was playing Tallarns.  It was a blast and I had 4 good games.  Each Mission was broken down into Primary, Secondary and Tertiary objectives.  For Primaries I went 2-1-1, for Secondaries, 2-1-1 and for Tertiaries 1-1-1 (there was only 3).  So I am happy for how I did this year.  Overall out of 110 teams that we played, we placed someplace in the 50's.  So it was a good showing for us, especially for a group of guys who just wanted to play for fun.

Sunday, I entered into the Warhammer Fantasy Team Tournament (2 man event) with my great friend Chris W here in Chicago.  This event we were going for the wins.  Our team name was "Double Dynamite", I was playing a shooty Dark Elves list with 84 shots per round, Chris was playing Daemons with Magic and Combat.  The teams we played were; Empire/Dwarfs, Wood Elves/Wood Elves with double Treeman's, and Wood Elves/Empire with Treeman and Steam Tank.  There were times in our games where I didnt think we were going to pull it out, but with Chris as a General, we managed to go 3-0 and won by close to 1000 victory points per game.  My double Bolt Throwers really paid off.  We did not happen to win any awards (we did not have an elaborate display base, and our painting is average to above average), but I think we still placed in the Top 10.  The results for the event have not been posted yet, but I really do hope that we placed high.

So for next year what am I going to do.  Not sure at the moment, one of our 40K teammates may play in the singles Championship so we may not have a team, and for the Fantasy Team Tournament, I'm going to let Chris lay with another local player.  So I'm thinking that I'll probably also just play in the 40K Championships, have my son play one last year in the 40K Youngbloods event and maybe play in the LoTOW tournament (if Jay decides to run one).  We'll then take a day to just relax and enjoy the rest of the con, demo games, seminars and so on.  We'll see what happens, I have a year to plan.

Daily Chronicle: 3/22/2010: LoTOW: 'Frontier'

Yesterday I decided to head out to one of the few independent gaming stores in the Chicago area (Games Plus in Mt. Prospect) to see if they have a WWII Skirmish rule set called "Rules of Engagement" by "Great Escape Games" that Rob over at "Drunken Samurai Painting Blog" has recently picked up. If there is a store that will carry this game in Chicago, it would be Games Plus.  They have just about every type of independent game and miniature available.  So I'm perusing the aisles and sure enough I find the rule book, as Rob mentioned it is a nice hard back style of rule book, but it also had a nice price tag of $52.00.  The next aisle over were all the rulebooks for Legends of The Old West.  I have the main rulebook for LoTOW, but I do not own any of the supplement books.  Seeing how I started this blog to chronicle my hobbying/gaming of Old West miniatures and I really have not done much of that, it made me really think what do I want to purchase.  A  new rule set that I only own a few miniatures for (WWII), or pick up the supplement "Frontier" for LoTOW.

Well after perusing the "Frontier" book and noticed that they have a section in their for competitive gaming and the rules for building your Posse's for competitive gaming, my son and I decided that we should probably pick up the supplement instead of learning another rule set.  As I stated in my New Years Resolution, I need to cut down on the new games I pick up and concentrate on the one's I have.  I also stated that I will be getting more involved in LoTOW this year.  Just 10 more days until we move, then my two core games will be Warhammer 40K, and Legends of The Old West.  This will be followed by Warhammer Fantasy and Lord of the Rings.  If time allows I will then also play other games.

Last year I purchased plenty of building for LoTOW to play the game, but we were lacking in the rest of the terrain.  Seeing how Games Plus has 'everything' there, I decided to check out some the terrain that they also have.  Tim K over at "Cursed Treasures" has gotten me hooked on loading the table up with terrain, and the terrain does really make the table look awesome and fun to play on.

I headed on down to the terrain aisles and came across the following items that I thought we would add to our games.

All of these items are made by "Pegasus Hobbies", and I already own one of their fence sets, so adding the above to our collection will nicely fill out our gaming table.

With LoTOW Frontier and the above terrain, I walked out of Games Plus for close to the same price as what the rule book for "Rules of Engagement" would have cost me.  I still would like to play the WWII Skirmish game (maybe if I meet up with Rob and Tim) but I really want to concentrate on LoTOW first.

April is going to be a real busy month for me in regards to painting.....  Now I need to add my Old West building to list of items to paint.

Daily Chronicle: 3/15/2010

I know it has been two weeks since I last posted anything, but with the move back to Arizona in a few more weeks all my hobbying supplies and models have already been packed.  I really did not want to wait to the last minute to pack everything so we have been getting items packed when we can.  So my hobbying blogs have been limited.

I have been working on a few army lists for a couple of armies that I have in the painting queue.  I'll try and post an Ork list I have been working on later today.

Other than that, just before I left back to Chicago after GitD 2010, I did pick up a Tyranid Hive Tyrant for my Tyranid army.  So I now have my Termagants and Hive Tyrant for that Army.  Assembly/painting will commence in a few more weeks once I get my painting station all settled in Arizona.

The first items that will get completed once I move will be to finish my Imperial Guard.  4 Heavy Bolters, 4 Chimeras and 1 Hellhound is all that is left to complete and I will have 2000 points completed.  I know I will be busy getting the new place all decorated when we move, but my goal is to also get the above completed by that first full week.  We will arrive on Easter weekend, barring any late night "work" items, by the following weekend they should all be completed.  Let's hope.  I really want to start playing with the full army and moving onto to painting the Tyranids.

One problem I have is that I am currently out of my "The Army Painter" 'strong tone' dip.  So I think for the rest of the IG models I will be moving to a brown shade from the "Minwax" line.  Hopefully they will look pretty close in color.  I will continue with the "Minwax" brand when I work on the Nids and future armies.  Cost and ease of purchasing are the main reasons for the switch.

Other items of mention:  AdeptiCon 2010 March 26th-28th is only two weeks away.  My armies for the Warhammer 40K Team Tournament and Warhammer Fantasy Team Tournament are all set.  Looking forward to one last big gaming weekend before the drive out.

Also in September of 2010, "Tide of War" will be coming back in Phoenix, AZ.  A friend of mine has been running that Fantasy event for the last three years.  This year they will be adding a 40K tournament also.  Both events will be taking place on separate weekends so that everyone has a chance to play in both events.  The Fantasy event will be called "Blood in the Sand" and the 40K event will be called "Desert Assault".  All the rules and information should be posted soon for both events.  So be sure and check out "Tides of War".

Painting Points: February 2010

The start of February I was still in high gear with the painting, but throughout the month it kind of tapered off with not painting anything the last week of February.  Most of the models I need/want to paint are already boxed up for moving.  I do have four Heavy Bolter Imperial Guard Teams that should be getting done this month and if time allows I may purchase the one last Hellhound that I need and try to get that completed.
