W40K: IG Vendetta 1

As I mentioned in my 'IG Veterans With Plasmaguns' post the other day, I had started working on a Vendetta Flyer for my Imperial Guard army.  I had always wanted a Vendetta when they were first released, and with the release of 6th Edition and the need for Flyers, this model was now going to be perfect for my army.  Eventually I'll add a second Vendetta, but I may work on a few other models beforehand.

Once again I used 'The Army Painter' "Desert Yellow" spray, and then I brushed on their "Strong Tone" dip.  The dip gives my army that 'dirty, batteworn' look to the army.

W40K: IG Veterans With Plasmaguns

Well I could not get back into Warhammer 40K and not have anything painted for the month of January.

Since I am going to be heading out of town tomorrow for a few days, I wanted to make sure and get something done.  I am currently working on a Vendetta also for my Imperial Guard army, but thought I'd also add some specialist weapons to my army.  With 6th edition, it seems like Plasmaguns are the way to go.  I currently have 4 Veteran Squads, 2 armed with 3 Meltaguns and 2 armed with 3 Plasmaguns.  I figure I'd paint up 3 more Plasmagun troopers in case I want to swap some of the Meltaguns out.

The other day I went digging through my IM bitz box and dug out the pieces needed.  After assembling the model it was time to spray the base coat on the models.  This is where I was worried, I originally started painting this army over three years ago and I used 'The Army Painter' "Desert Yellow" spray for my basecoat.  It was time to dig out the cans from years ago......  I tested the spray on a junk sprue, and sure enough it still worked.  I then proceeded with the basecoat of the models.  All looked good when they dried and I then continued on each model.  Also when I started this army, I used 'The Army Painter' "Strong Tone" dip, half way through I had switched to Polyshades due to price.  I now decided to go back to the 'The Army Painter' brand.

While taking a photo of my Vendetta in progress, I ended up catching these guys in the background.  Here are the 3 Plasmagun Troopers prior to getting their dip.

Yesterday afternoon I brushed the dip on, then this morning finished the bases and sprayed the dullcote.

When I get back this weekend I will finish up the Vendetta and have a great start for February.

W40K: IG Leman Russ Battle Tank

Games Workshop©
Well with the new Imperial Guard Leman Russ Battle Tank kit being released this past Saturday, you'd think this post was about the new kit, sorry.

When I first started buying the models for my Imperial Guard army, I purchased somewhere along the lines 14 Chimera's.  Seeing how that I was not going to need all 14, I traded one plus cash for a Leman Russ Battle Tank.  Since this trade was a few months ago, it is obviously not the new kit.

I started assembling my Leman Russ this past Saturday night and I was able to complete it yesterday.  Seeing how I already had new kit for the Leman Russ Executioner, I wanted this Battle Tank to look close to it.  So I left off the covers on the tracks and swapped out the turret cover to match the newer one.  I think it looks pretty close to my Executioner.  I also used some of the extra pieces from the Executioner (Punisher gun, Melta sponsons) and a friend of mine has given me some of the metal Plasma Cannon sponsons so that now I can run the Leman Russ Battle Tank or the Leman Russ Punisher and I can also swap out the sponsons for either Heavy Bolter, Meltaguns or Plasma cannons.  I opted not to model the Heavy Flamer sponsons since I usually do not get that close to the enemy with my large tanks.  I prefer the sit back and shoot approach.

Anyway, here are a few pictures of the Leman Russ with some of the different add-ons.

W40K: IG Heavy Weapon Lascannons

Games Workshop©
So I noticed the other day that I am only 4 Painting Points shy of setting a monthly record for myself.  My monthly record is 135 Painting Points and I am currently at 132 Painting Points.

What better way to get 4 Painting Points than to finish the 2 remaining Imperial Guard Heavy Weapon Teams I still have sitting in my bitz box.

I already have 3 Autocannons and 4 Heavy Bolters.  It sure would be nice to add some Lascannon's to the army.  So that is what I decided to do.  I modeled the remaining 2 teams as Lascannon's.

I was able to start on them yesterday during the little downtime I had with work, and sprayed the Matte finish this morning.

W40K: IG Veteran Squad 4

Games Workshop©
As I mentioned the other day in one of my "Daily Chronicles", I decided that I wanted to add another Veteran Squad to my Imperial Guard army.  Currently I have 3 dedicated Veteran Squads, and I can piece mail 3 more squads from my Infantry Squads with Flamers.  I had 10 infantry still on sprue and some Plasmaguns, so I decided to make a fourth dedicated squad.  This now gives me 2 Veteran Squads with 3 Meltaguns, and 2 Veteran Squads with 3 Plasmaguns.  I can still piece mail 2 more squads with Flamers when/if I play my full Mechanized list.  I'd love to eventually have all 6 dedicated Veteran Squads.  Eventually I'll get some more models to be able to that and add some Valkyrie's to the list.

I think once the Blood Angels get completed I'll stop working on new armies and continue working on expanding the Imperial Guard.  There are so many cool models for them that I want to add to this army.

W40K: IG 1750 Complete

Yeah!!!!!!  My 4 Heavy Bolters for my Imperial Guard army are now completed.  1750 points of Imperial Guard are now done and ready for the tabletop.  I have a little more than 1750 points painted (with different weapons and options) but my 1750 point list is now completed.

Their first battle will most likely commence this Friday night (with Empire Games being open till 12AM on Friday nights, it will give me a little bit more time to really learn the army).

It will be time to bring down Vulkan He'stan

Now we can move onto the Tyranids for awhile.

W40K: IG Chimera's (5-8)

My Imperial Guard Chimera's #'s 5-8 are now completed.  I have not yet found a good setup in my new place to take photos so please bear with me on the quality of these.  My lighting is still way off.  Hopefully I'll find a better setup soon and re-upload these photos.

W40K: IG 1500/1750 Alternate Lists

Seeing how I still do not have my second Hellhound (and probably will not for a few more weeks, boy do moving expenses really add up....) I decided to redo some of my earlier lists I published to remove the second Hellhound and add in the Leman Russ.  Plus, I really do like the Executioner, it really paid off at AdeptiCon.

W40K: IG 9th Vostroyans 2000 Point List

I believe I finally decided on a list for the 9th Vostroyans.  Since mainly my 114th Cadians are a mix of Foot/Mech (with the option to go fully Mech), I decided that for the Vostroyans I will go fully Mechanized for them.  This way the 144th Cadians can stay as Foot/Mech, and I'll play the Vostroyans fully Mech.  When I finally do play Apocalypse games, I'll have plenty of fire power when combing both regiments.

Like I said yesterday, I really wanted to go heavy with the Tanks, so here is what I came up with:

2000 Pts
HQ

Company Command Squad w/ Carapace Armour, 3 Flamers; Chimera (140)

Troops:

W40K: IG 114th Cadian 2nd Infantry Platoon

As I mentioned in yesterday's 'Daily Chronicle' I was able to finish up the 2nd Infantry Platoon for my 114th Cadian Imperial Guard.  The Platoon Command will actually have an Autocannon instead of two Guardsman (you can see my list change here) but I thought I should finish up the original two men also.

Along with the 1750 Mech/Foot list I have posted, I think I will be trying out this Fully Mechanized list once in awhile for fun.  It's all about having fun with our toy soldiers isn't it?  Why not try out different builds since the models will already be assembled and painted.

I decided to make a few little changes to my Imperial Guard 1500/1750/2000 point Mech/Foot lists.  I'll be dropping two Guardsman from the Platoon Commands and replacing them with Autocannon's along with dropping the Carapace Armour from Vet Squad #3.  This also freed some points to add "Smoke" to the Devil Dog's

W40K: IG 1st Infantry Platoon Command

Last night, going in today I was able to finish my Platoon Command for my 1st Infantry Platoon.  After finishing the Command, I then realized I'll be making a small change to the Command.  I am going to be swapping out two Guardsman for an Autocannon Team.  I'll be making this change for my 1750 and 2000 point Mech/Foot lists.  That is the nice thing about Imperial Guard.  There are so many little changes you can make to your list if you want to try new things out.  In my 1750 Fully Mech list I'll probably be running all Vet Squads so the Platoon Commands will not be needed.  We'll see which lists I like best.  I'll be trying them both out and they both have their advantages.

I already had Squad 1 of my 1st Infantry Platoon done prior to the new year, but I did complete the bases yesterday.  I also finished up Squad 2 of the 1st Infantry Platoon.  The Heavy Bolters are currently missing from the Squads as they will all be painted at the same time.

W40K: IG Special Weapons Squads

In January I finished up four Special Weapons Squads for the Imperial Guard and I did not post the pictures.  The reason being, the bases/matte coat were not done on them.  I was originally going to wait till we moved back to AZ and get all the bases done with the idea being that I wanted to concentrate on my AdeptiCon armies.  Seeing how I am now all done with my AdeptiCon armies, I decided to base/matte coat these squads.  Started the bases on these guys last night and finished them up today.

For future lists I'll be able to interchange these models with other units, but for now they will start off as Special Weapons Squads.

One of my favorite architect's Ludwig Mies van der Rohe adopted the motto "Less is more", I decided to do the same for my Imperial Guard vehicles.  Just a little basecoat, and let the dip do the rest.  Here are some pics of the process from Base Coat - Matte Coat of my Hellhound.

The four Chimera's and Hellhound are now complete for my AdeptiCon 1000 point Team Tournament list (pictures will be posted tomorrow once the "dip" dries.  We'll be play testing the list next weekend and hopefully the list will do alright.  Seeing how I already packed/boxed all my other W40K items, I really do not have much room to make any changes.

Here are my updated progress charts for my Imperial Guard army:

W40K: Imperial Guard 1/22/2010

Finished up my fourth and final Special Weapons Squad last night for the IG (the last of my models that were already primed).  I ordered my "Desert Yellow" primer from The War Store today, so hopefully I'll have a lot more updates for my Imperial Guard next week.

Progress below on what is left to do to complete my 1000 points for the AdeptiCon W40K Team Tournament.  4 Chimera's and 1 Bane Wolf to go.  I'll be ordering my primer tomorrow so hopefully some progress can be done on them next weekend.
