WM: Mercenaries Orin Midwinter (Solo)

It has been a little over two years since I last painted a Warmachine Mercenary model (mostly now it is my Hordes models with a few Khador), but this Solo, ‘Orin Midwinter’ is needed in my Minions list I am working on for the NOVA Open at the end of August and it gives me my first painted model for the month of April.

‘Orin Midwinter’ is mainly used for his ARCANE VORTEX which allows him to spend a power token to negate a spell that targets a model with 3” of it (he starts the game with 3 power tokens).  ‘Orin’ also has CHAIN LIGHTNING (*ATTACK) which I can see help take down some pesty infantry.  I should be getting a game in this Thursday night, so we’ll see how he works.

WM: Mercenaries Madelyne Corbeau, Ordic Courtesan (Solo)

There is something about painting Warmachine/Hordes miniatures that I really enjoy about them, especially the Solo's. I think it is because most of the models are unique. When I paint a Solo, each miniature feels like a centerpiece and time can be spent just on that one model. Coming from the 'rank and file' world where I had to paint 30 guys all posed the same way and only got to fight with the front 5, that got boring to paint. Grant it there are Units in Warmachine/Hordes, but usually no greater than 10 models, and those 10 'most' of the time are also unique.

I have been working on a Butcher 3 list as my 2nd list for Master's Tournaments, so the models in that list are probably going to be hitting the painting station first. I'll be throwing in a few other models here and there just to change it up a bit for me so I do not get bored.

So up next we have another Solo for my army. Madelyn Corbeau, Ordic Courtesan. My light setup is still not ideal and her face actually looks a lot better in person than what the lighting/picture shows here.

WM: Mercenaries Ogrun Bokur (Solo)

I was not really sure I was going to be able to start on a model last night, but once I started to lay down the base colors for Ogrun Bokur, I just kept on going until he was finished.

I usually do not stray from the Privateer Press Studio color schemes, but for this guy I elected to make his skin color more of a brownish color (P3 Beast Hide) instead of green. I had figured he would have enough green with his armor.

WM: Mercenaries Rhupert Carvolo, Piper of Ord (Solo)

This past Tuesday I asked my son how his progress was going on getting his Cygnar army ready for the Las Vegas Open. He had to finish 1 Unit and 2 Solo's, so he is getting there. I offered if he wanted me to paint 'Rhupert Carvolo, Piper of Ord' for him....of course he said yes, so after he got home from college, he dropped the model off to me. So the prep work started in the afternoon, and by the time the evening was over, Rhupert was completed.

As I started to prep the model I noticed that his sword was missing. I asked my son about it and he said he did not think Rhupert needed it...ok, no sword, we can always add it later if needed. It actually made the painting a little easier with it not there.

Nothing too fancy with this model, just wanted to get it quickly done for him.

WM: Mercenaries Eiryss, Angel of Retribution (Solo)

First off, if I have any Canadian or English readers out there, Happy Boxing Day!

With yesterday being Christmas, it usually means we are all home not doing much until Christmas dinner is ready. So after opening presents and getting my daily bicycle ride in, I decided to do some more painting.

In the morning my son said I should I paint Eiryss, Angel of Retribution next, so yesterday I was able to complete her from start to finish.

WM: Mercenaries Cylena Raefyll & Nyss Hunters (Unit)

First off I'd like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas 2015! I know it is a bit late in the day already, but I finally was able to get some time to write this post.

Well the last 10 models for my 'original planned' list for the Las Vegas Open in February is now completed. Having Christmas Eve off from work, I was able to sit down at the painting table and knock this Unit out. My goal with them was just a 'table top' quality paint job, and I am actually quite happy how they turned out.

Up next will probably be Eiryss, Angel of Retribution a Mecanary Solo, then after that I am undecided. I can add more to my Khador Army, or start on some Hordes. I am leaning towards starting my Gators for Hordes.

I also may make a slight change in my list for the LVO (swapping out Sorscha 2 for Butcher) but all the models needed are done. Butcher is more of my play style (having him go in for the Assination), but I still need to playtest Sorscha with the full 50 points.

WM: Mercenaries Sylys Wyshnalyrr (Solo)

I a so glad most of my TV shows are done until after winter break, I am able to get more and more Warmachine models completed. Friday afternoon/night I started and completed my Sylys Wyshnalyrr, a Mercenary for hire.

An Iosan scholar well versed in the arcane arts, Sylys Wyshnalyrr barters his talents to the armies of the Iron Kingdoms in exchange for access to their libraries and safe passage across their lands. Given Sylys’ attention, even the most puissant warcaster would find his own sorcerous ability strengthened, gaining an invaluable edge in battle.

WM: Mercenaries Lady Aiyana & Master Holt (Unit)

OMG! I am actually writing a post of some models that I have finished. It has been a long time since I have completed a model. I figure with the Warmachine Las Vegas Open coming up in 2 months, it was time to kick it into high gear and get my models done. I have a lot to get completed before the LVO.

First up we have some Mercanaries, Lady Aiyana & Master Holt.

I do not have a good setup yet for taking photos in my new place, so these will have to do.

WM: Mercenaries Phinneus Shae (Warcaster)

I know I have been slacking a little bit lately.  It has been two weeks since I last painted a model.  Yesterday I actually sat down and decided to get started on the new Mercenaries that  my son received.  He decided that he wanted to do a themed 'pirate' list around "Captain Phinneus Shae"

WM: Rhul Ghordson Driller (Warjack)

As I saw my "Ghordson Driller" just sitting in the package, I thought it was time to take a small break from Khador and to finish this model up.

"Driller" is the last of the Mercenaries models I have for my Rhul army.  15 points to start with are now complete.  I'll play a few games at this point level and then decide if I want to expand them to 25 points.  I think for now I'll keep them at 15 points and possibly start another small army in the near future.

I have two other Cygnar models I am probably going to paint next, then back to Khador.

WM: Rhul Wroughthammer Rockram (Warjack)

Mercenaries
Now that "Gorten Grundback" was finished the other day, he needs some Heavy Warjacks to control.

For my 15 points I am going to have "Driller" and "Rockram" and seeing how I already had "Rockram" assembled, he hit the painting board first.

I painted "Rockram" very similar to the way I painted my Light Warjacks "Grundback Gunners" with one slight change.  Besides adding some 'Traitor Green', I decided to do the highlight before the wash on "Rockram".  With the "Grundback Gunners" I did the highlight afterwards and I feel the highlight sticks out just a bit.

All that's left for the Rhul army is the "Driller" and I am hoping to get to him this weekend.  Some Cygnar models will be coming up next.

WM: Rhul Gorten Grundback (Warcaster)

Mercenaries
As I mentioned yesterday, I was going to put the Khador army on hold for a few models and continue on my Rhul army and my son's Cygnar army.

My Warcaster of choice for the Rhul army is "Gorten Grundback".  The 'Strength of Granite' spell that "Gorten" has is just too good not to pass up to cast on my Warjacks.  I also really like the sculpt of this model.  That is one benefit in getting back into Warmachine.  I always liked the sculpts of the models and they are an enjoy to paint.

I followed a similar paint scheme to what I used  for "Thor Steinhammer" with the added color of P3's 'Traitor Green' in some areas.

WM: Rhul Thor Steinhammer (Solo)

Mercenaries
More work continued on my Rhul Warmachine army.

This time I decided to paint up Thor Steinhammer.  He is a 'Jack Marshal' for the Rhul army and he can also be used as a Mercenary in my Khador army.  As a 'Jack Marshal' for my Khador army, he can control up to two Mercenary Warjacks.

Thor Steinhammer was actually quite fun and easy to paint up.  I was able to get him done in about 90 minutes, and the GW 'Devlan Mud' wash worked great on him.

WM: Rhul Grundback Gunners (Warjack)

Mercenaries
The first models for my Rhul Mercenaries army for Warmachine are now done.  The first two models I started painting were the "Grundback Gunners".  Since these two Warjacks were so small, I decided to paint them together and save some time.

The Rhul army is only going to be 15 points to start with, so I still have my Warcaster "Gorten Grundback", a Solo "Thor Steinhammer" and two Heavy Warjacks, "Rockram" and a "Driller" to paint.

I'll be picking up the "Driller" model this weekend and hopefully more progress will be done on them before the weekend is over.
