Daily Chronicle: Change in Convention Schedule for 2022

Yesterday I was thinking about our upcoming Convention Schedule for the rest of 2022, and was thinking about making some changes.

Originally planned, the next two events would have been the Motor City Mayhem in May (in which we were playing in the Warhammer 40,000 GT) and Cruisehammer in August (which also would have been a Warhammer 40,000 Open).  Well if you have been reading this blog for the past two months, you would have noticed a lot of posts recently for Marvel Crisis Protocol, and I have been getting an itch to play in one of these events.   A lot of gamer's that I had met playing Guild Ball made the move to MCP when Steamforged killed Guild Ball, and the camaraderie at these events with these players has always been fun and I am hoping MCP will be just like that.

We are thinking about doing MCP at the Michigan GT in October, but I was looking for something a bit sooner, well here comes the Atlantic City Open in June of 2022.  I have never been to Atlantic City before and have always wanted to see it, so this would be a plus.  The MCP badge at the Atlantic City Open is only $40, and that includes a day of open gaming on Friday, and two separate tournaments, one on Saturday an one on Sunday.  Now I have two months to learn the game better and play faster.

In doing the Atlantic City Open, we are cancelling Motor City Mayhem and Cruisehammer (I have been leery about Cruisehammer for awhile since they still require a negative Covid test to board the boat taken not more than two before boarding, that makes it kind of difficult when it would take us one day to drive down).

This then takes us back to Michigan GT in October, and we may then decide to play Warhammer 40,000 at that event (we are still in discussions about this),  I am also looking out for a Fall event for MCP, and there is a good one in Chicago, just not sure on the dates yet and if it will interfere with another trip of mine.

Weekly Chronicle 2021 #17 (Motor City Mayhem)

This past weekend my son and I drove across the state to Detroit for the first ever "Motor City Mayhem". We signed up for only the Team Tournament on Friday, where as I had to be home Saturday afternoon for a family wedding.

We actually overslept a bit on Friday morning and got off to a late start, but we still made it in time for registration, it was about 2.5 hour drive for us.

When we checked in, that did COVID temperature checks on everyone an the gaming tables were nicely spaced all in the hall (which I have to say, this location had a very nice gaming hall).

Our first game as "Dorn University" (Imperial Fists / Dark Angels) were against the "Death Angels" (Death Watch / Dark Angels), this game was against two fun opponents, but I was not too happy with our game play.  Turn 1 was not as good as I had hoped (we did limit them to only 1 Objective), but we should have knocked them off 2 this Turn, we then were playing catch up the rest of the game and we lost something like 61-35.

Our second game was against the "Impeding Cousins" (Tau/ Necrons), another set of great opponents.  This game we had a better opening and were able to jump out to the lead and hold on to the lead.  We were only able to get through 2 Rounds, but we managed the win an we were sitting at 1-1 for the day.

With Game #1 starting 15 minutes late, and Game #2 starting even later after lunch, Game #5 was not going to be starting till 5:00 PM and not ending till 8:00 PM, so we decided to wrap it up early and withdraw from Game #3 and check into our room and go look for a place for dinner.  We were actually both tired from the drive and long day.

"Motor City Mayhem" is an event I would actually return to again in the future.  If it stays in the same month though, it may be a little tough with AdeptiCon usually being held the month before, but we shall see what happens for next year.

My painting is still at a stand still with my 'Repulsor Executioner' just sitting on my painting table, half painted.  I might be able to get some more work done on it this Saturday morning.

Daily Chronicle: Motor City Mayhem April 23rd-25th 2021

As of this writing there is actually a scheduled event for Warhammer 40,000 that is not too far for us to attend.

It was announced last week that "Motor City Mayhem 2021" a Warhammer 40,000 Singles/Doubles tournament will be taking place in Southfield, MI at the Best Western Premier Hotel and Convention Center on April 23rd-25th, 2021.

Friday April 23rd is the 2v2 Team Tournament "Team up with a friend in our casual,  3 round 2v2 team tournament! Up to 64 team slots available."

Saturday and Sunday, April 24th-25th "Compete against a field of up to 128 players in our 5 round premier competitive event!"

Unfortunately I already have plans with my wife on that Saturday afternoon (nieces wedding) so the 2 day Singles Tournament is out of the question, but attending the Doubles Tournament on Friday would be a possibility.  Southfield, MI is only a 2.5 hour drive, so it is not that far, we can drive there real early Friday morning, play in the Doubles Tournament and then spend the night there to relax and drive back home on Saturday morning.

The next step was to see if my son was interested, this was a no brainer, right away he had said.

The next hurdle was just to verify the time of my nieces wedding, we confirmed with my wife that it was in the afternoon (actually pretty late, 4:30 PM) so we were then all set.

I registered for the event on their website and booked our room right after.  The event is offering a full refund policy (if you cancel on your own by April 7th) or if the event is cancelled due to government restrictions.  So as we get closer, we should know what the status is.

The event packets are not yet released, but we are assuming that it will be 2000 points per Team (1000 points per player), so that is why in yesterdays Weekly Chronicle I am starting to test out some 1000 point lists for my half of the Team.  The good news is that I am fully painted for basically every 1000 point combination that I would like to play, there may be a small chance that something will have to be painted, but unlikely.  My son on the other hand will be busy for the next three months.

Hopefully this event will be happening, it will be nice to finally get away for an event.
